Donald Marriott played tennis at The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey. He is according to numerous articles "Hopewell Valley News", "Trenton Times" and "Sports Carolina Monthly" the all-time greatest player in school history. The school established in 1838 he won more matches than any player in school history. He was the 1990 New Jersey Male Athlete of the Year for the "Trenton Times" newspaper.
