Dj rounsley
DJ Rounsley (born September 22, 1982) is an American radio personality in Dallas, Texas. He currently co-hosts ' on 1340 KAND in Dallas, as well as producing many various shows on and KSKY.
Career
DJ has been working in the Dallas radio market for almost a decade. He got started in promotions for hot talk powerhouse KLLI where he learned the intricacies of radio from Russ Martin and Program Director Gavin Spittle. DJ would come up to the radio station at night and on the weekends and sit in the production studio learning the mixing console. After spending months coming up every night to teach himself to run a board, he met producer and board-op Kent Giles. DJ and Kent worked on putting together a radio show for KLLI, but with no openings at the station DJ tried marketing the show outside of Dallas. While DJ was ready to move anywhere the show would be picked up, Kent was not ready to leave Dallas and DJ felt there was no show without Kent.
Moving from Promotions to traffic and then producer he was working his way up the ladder to gain attention from the program director in hopes of receiving a weekend talk show, but it was cut short when Kent was fired. DJ felt without Kent the show wouldn't work, saying,
"We had chemistry, Kent is gone and there's no one left to bounce topics off of, he was my right hand man".
DJ ultimately left KLLI for KLIF, WBAP and KSKY for more responsibility. He produces various shows throughout the week and co-host two shows on the weekend. From there he took his passion for sports and talk radio and formed a partnership with Matt Fraguela and created the sports talk show "In The Zone..." The two can be heard on KAND Mon-Fri talking sports, sex, alcohol and everything in between. It was said that DJ and Matt are trying to move their show back home to the Northeast United States.
Personal Life
DJ is not married, but is in a long-term relationship. On August 30, 2008 his girlfriend gave birth to DJ's first child, Kiefer Blake, he was named after DJ's favorite actor, Kiefer Sutherland.
Controversy
September 5, 2009 DJ went On-Air and made multiple references to Virginia Beach, Virginia as being,
"The best place in the country to work in radio and Jombie seems to be a great PD!"
The following weekend he mentioned "I was pulled aside earlier this week and basically scolded for talking about another market and how it's better than Dallas...At this moment all I can say is, I love the beach, I already do sports talk, I promise to use Jump by Van Halen, my resume is ready and wating and I'm cheap."
And asked on-air, if the reason he was so enthralled with the computer at that moment, was because he was researching the Dallas Cowboys, DJ responded,
"No, researching Virginia Beach."
Writing
DJ was the senior writer and editor for Big Bad Sports Daddy, but left a year later. He said, "The site tanked and it was more pop culture and youtube than it was sports...I didn't want my name associated with that crap."
He was recently hired on to write for ESPNDallas.com and will post his first articles in early October.
