District Courts, Chandigarh

District courts, Chandigarh is the district and sessions court for the Union territory of Chandigarh, in India. It is situated at sector 17 in Chandigarh, the capital of the States of Punjab and Haryana. The sanctioned strenghth of this district and sessions court is 20 judges. As on 9th April, 2011, there are 20 Judges.

History

The court came into existence on 1st November, 1966 with the bifurcation of the states of Punjab and Haryana and creation of Chandigarh as a Union Territory.. Shri Jasmer Singh being was the first District & Sessions Judge, Chandigarh, and Shri Sohan Lal Verma was the Sub Judge First Class.
