Dirtfedd
Dirtfedd is a hardcore metal band from Lincoln, Nebraska and one of the more popular bands in the Midwestern metal scene.
Biography
The band's formation is often times casually told in a humorous fashion, suggesting that "Dirtfedd is made up of five disturbed individuals that got together out of boredom". In reality, the band was formed when guitarist Cameron Ruble met vocalist Dustin Travels through a mutual friend.
The two had a similar MusicAL vision and collaborated immediately. Attempts at starting a band proved fruitless, but the two continued jamming together. While surfing a local music website (www.slamomaha.com), Cameron came across a post from local drummer, Brock Wettstead, who had recently left a band that was popular around the Lincoln area.
In the post, Brock said he wanted to "do something dark, heavy, energetic, and most of all, original". The three corresponded for a week before getting together for a jam session. From the ashes of his previous band, Brock introduced the others to guitarist Eric Marshall, who instantly brought a dynamic approach to the band.
Finally, in April of 2002, the core of Dirtfedd was formed, but the band was not yet complete. A bass (music) player was needed who could add more talent to the band. Within a couple of weeks, they came across bassist Will Holmes. His addition brought the band to a new plane. After playing several local gigs throughout the Omaha/Lincoln, Nebraska area, Jeff Goff was added to the band as a percussionist in April of 2003 to give the rhythm section a more "tribal approach".
A few weeks later, bassist Will Holmes left the band to pursue possible careers with another band. His departure enabled Joe Fowler, a work acquaintance of Cameron's, to join the band. With his talents on the bass guitar and outrageous performance abilities, Dirtfedd’s popularity grew rapidly.
Since then, Dirtfedd has shared the stage with national touring metal acts such as Lamb of God, Unearth, and God Forbid. They have also received praise from national acts such as Mushroomhead and Dope. The musical style of Dirtfedd is a collaboration of jazz, blues, punk, southern rock, hardcore, and metal.
The band recently replaced Joe Fowler with full-time bassist Scott Root; Jeff Goff and Cameron Ruble have since left as well.
