Digitalagency
The expression 'Digital Agency' is increasingly being used by marketing organisations to signify their ability to offer clients online, or new media services.
The domain; DigitalAgency.com1, is registered through Nominet to an advertising agency established to explore the opportunities of Web 2.0 and New Marketing.
The domain name was registered in 1997, but it was only in May 2006, that Mike Coulter and Dr Alice Bartholomew in Edinburgh formally launched the company.
(Interestingly a time when 'simple English' domain names are something of a rarity in terms of availability, and with the growing abundance of 'made-up' 'non-sense' domain names being in vogue today, many advertisers and marketers are looking for variations of the 'Digital Agency' name tag. Indeed, Mike Coulter; owner of the DigitalAgency.com" domain has received several lucrative offers to sell the domain to new start ups in the space, or indeed domain name speculators. Something that has been, and will continue to be, strongly resisted.)
The two founders of DigitalAgency, wanted to create a new kind of marketing resource for clients: A creative team that rigorously combined two disciplines that until now had been separate entities in advertising agencies. Creative and Planning/Research.
Mike's background as a creative group head and Alice's academic background as an Ethnographer provided the perfect qualifications for such a partnership.
'Digital Agencies' often use The New Web 2.0 online tools that consumers use, but on behalf of their clients. Tools such as Flickr, YouTube, Skype.
And of course integrate blogging, podcasting and viral advertising into the mix.
These new marketers also explore the opportunities afforded by social networks, such as Second Life, Habbo Hotel, MySpace and Bebo.
And keep an eye on emerging technologies such as GeoTagging.
