Digital Data Monitoring (DDM) is commonly used with optical fiber transceivers to monitor transceiver parameters including:
* Temperature
* Supply
* Voltage
* Laser bias current
* Laser power
* Received optical power

DDM sometimes includes internal calibration circuitry to optimize link performance.
