Synopsis
In 2001, 2 years after the 1999 which should have been the end of the world, Tin Yau and Zhen Zhen were formally in a relationship. Ma had, as in the first series, taken Jing Jong as her apprentice. This time, however, her friends already knew she was a ghost catcher. Ho Ying Kau, as opposed to the first series, was again apprenticed to Mao Xiaofong, but was also a qualified doctor and Chinese Medicine practitioner. He was also a doctor for ghosts in the night, healing them for e.g. prolonged exposure the sun (the Yang energies are opposite the ghosts' Yin nature).
It is also from here that vampires are officially classified in terms of generations. The further down the line from Cheung Sun, the weaker the vampire. (In the first series, Ho theorised that a vampire that can be killed by a stake through the heart was at most a tenth-generation. While not specifically classed, vampires under Yamamoto are weaker than him in the first series, in the second series there are a total of five generations: Red(First),Green(Second),Orange(Third), Grey(Forth, which can be mix with other colors mostly like Blue), White(Fifth).)
Ma was employed by Japanese Merchant Domoto Shizu to retrieve a gem called the Angel's Tear, which had been stolen by vampires during Ma's mission to lure them out at a fashion show. She had been posing as the model to exhibit the gem, which is rumoured to be cursed. Managing to track down the gem to a small town in Scotland, she and her apprentice, along with Tin Yau and Zhen Zhen on holiday, decided to go there. They bumped into Master Peacock at an inn, who was disguised as the owner. Peacock later revealed that he was here to ensure the completion of a wedding that never ended 50 years ago. It was going to be the local Fairie Festival soon, and many locals deserted the streets since the last festival, 50 years ago, exactly on the day of the wedding, the whole town's population vanished.
The group encountered a Chinese owner of a castle by the name of Roy, who took them to a field facing a forest rumoured to contain fairies. As they stood there, the pure-hearted Zhen Zhen was the only one wh could hear the tale of the wedding that ended in tragedy. Roy had panicked and stopped her retelling it just as she was evidently getting scared, before inviting them to dinner at his place. He then retold the tale of the wedding, which had been right at the castle where they were now staying in.
The wedding was a doomed disaster waiting to happen. The groom was a vampire, but fell in love with a normal woman. He tried to stop himself from drinking blood by locking himself in a cell, hoping to drive out the blood lust in him. On the day of the wedding, thieves came to steal the Angel's Tear, which was a wedding present from the groom, and the blood from the murdered guests stimulated the groom into a [...] frenzy. He ended up [...] the remaining guests and all the thieves alike and almost killed the bride, whom he bit to turn into a vampire.
The tale is interrupted with the appearance of Celia, Roy's wife. By then, it had become clear to them that the tale referred to Roy and Celia. Celia was taking revenge on Roy for what he had done, [...] randomly anyone she could lay her hands on. She almost killed Zhen Zhen but was luckily stopped. Celia later understood from her dying servant (the vampire who stole the gem for her masters) that Roy had always loved her, and found out why and where he disappeared before the wedding. She agreed to finish the wedding that had started. To ensure that happens, Peacook bound Ma and her apprentice so that the wedding could proceed. Tin Yau and Zhen Zhen, as well as the ghosts of the guests who lingered because of the unfinished wedding, bore wtiness.
Immediately afterwards, Celia tempted Roy into the dungeon cell and locked him in there, and went off to provoke a fight with Ma, in order to be killed, to amend the couple's mistake. Celia was quickly defeated, being a white-eyed (fifth generation) vampire. Roy, a fourth generation with grey eyes, broke free, and grieving the lost of his wife, went into another frenzy. He attacked the group, now joined by Peacock. He mortally wounded Tin Yau in the process. Tin Yau wished Ma to take care as she pursued Roy, who had no idea of the extent Tin Yau's injury. After watching her leave, he spat blood, collapsed and died. A Tin Yau look-a-like in a leather jacket (as opposed to his velvet coat) arrives. Fong Gwok Wah sensed his grandson in danger, but had arrived too late. Whilst Ma, Jing Jong and Peacock were battling and distracted, Fong, a second-generation (green-eye), attacked Roy and weakened him. Ma delivered the [...] blow.
Roy stumbled into the forest, where he finds Celia's body. She was surrounded by fluttering fairies. Celia turned into a fairie, and departed from Roy with words of love. Roy's body evaporated as he died in peace. Ma, cold on the outside, but passionate inside, buried the Angel's Tear at Roy and Celia's graves. ("What are you looking at? Fine, I'll give it back to you," she said.)
Nobody suspected Tin Yau's identity, since he looks exactly the same as his recently deceased grandson, although Jing Jong was the first to notice the leather jacket and his sudden detached behaviour startled everyone. After returning to Hong Kong, Fong assumed his grandson's role at the urging of Fok Sung, this time posing as his paternal side first cousin. GwokWah took up the identity, dress, and job of TinYau. He became a CID and was on a case concerning mysterious murders, allegedly by a vampire. He was almost on to the culprit when he was stopped by two mysterious vampires, clad in a gothic style with reflective leather. They practically played with Fong, who of course was "malnutritioned", had no way of beating them. They disappeared quickly.
Meanwhile, ZhenZhen's cheerful but rather dorky neighbour Yuen MungMung applies for the Miss Hong Kong Contest. Originally the people in charge, headed by Szeto (The human reincarnation of Yamamoto, who has supposedly died after the first series), decided not to accept her after seeing her picture in the application form, but they accidentally dropped the files. When the files were picked up, her application form was accidentally placed among the accepted candidates. Among the accepted candidates was MeiLoi (Mirai), now also a human and apparently without parents. The Japanese Merchant Domoto Shizu, Chinese name Tong BungJin, also makes a reappearance and it is revealed that he is a human wishing (and to some degree, believing) himself to be a vampire.
MungMung told ZhenZhen the reason she applied was because her mother always paid more attention to the TV due to Alzheimer's disease, so should she appear on it, her mother might notice her. When she receives a call for an interview, Fok Sung creates an illusion over her so that she appeared to be a beautiful woman. When the interviewers saw her, they were amazed at her beauty and accepted her without question. The illusion lasted only for the interview, when she left the building she returned to her original appearance. Yet she was happy, and resolved to appear her best when she gets to finally appear on TV. It was a dream she would never be able to fulfil.
Jing Jong gives a necklace to Tin Yau, telling him it was for luck and protection. In reality, the necklace acts similarly to a recording camera, for Jing Jong was curious to what was 'wrong' with Tin Yau and at the same time see if he could catch Tin Yau cheating on Zhen Zhen. He did not know, but Ma was actually much faster than he was, and was already starting to suspect that Tin Yau was an imposter. As for Tin Yau, he gives the necklace to Zhen Zhen's neighbour. It was to be the recording device of her [...], for as luck had it MungMung unintentionally interfered with BungJin plans to kidnap MeiLoi - who looked shockingly like his dead mother. The furious BungJin kills MungMung, by the time her body was found there was no trace except for the vampire fang marks on her neck.
As tribute to her death, Szeto decides to give the Miss Hong Kong medal to MungMung in her memory. He goes to MungMung's apartment to tell her mother, but meets ZhenZhen and gets a vision of a Japanese wife instead. This intially confuses the two of them, but he dismisses it quickly to get to business. When he learns MungMung's mother was not in a suitable condition to appear in front of the TV viewers, he asks ZhenZhen to go instead. She agrees, but a few days later she learns from MeiLoi that Szeto was actually relieved that MungMung was dead because her appearance would have ruined the audience ratings. Angered, ZhenZhen refuses the medal in front of millions of viewers, and indirectly hints at the conspiracy behind it. Though humiliated, Szeto finds himself growing strangely interested in ZhenZhen, and was disappointed to learn she already had someone else.
The someone else was Tin Yau, who could not fall in love with ZhenZhen, and to make things worst Ma finally figured it out. However, both agreed to not let ZhenZhen or anyone else know. The characters busied themselves by finding MungMung's ghost - once again, ZhenZhen's pure heart helped them - and helping her reincarnate while trying to figure out who her [...] was. They managed to conclude that despite the bite marks, it was a human who killed MungMung. No connection was made with BungJin, who was growing more and more obsessed with MeiLoi. MeiLoi meanwhile tells JingJong the freedom and annoymity of the internet which will allow anyone to be anyone and befriend anyone. JingJong, lonely and often crushed by Ma's sharp words, decides to buy himself a personal laptop and assume a false identity of a 'perfect' male looking for a girlfriend. He fails to notice that in the same shop, a man collasped in front of a computer, the sinister eyes of a beautiful girl laughing at him from the screen.
It was easy for JingJong to soon see only his online friends as his source of comfort, for reality was often harsh and people treated him as an inferior. Quickly, he met a beautiful Japanese girl named Ji online, and the two became friends. This reliance caused him to neglect his friendships and his own health, causing more then one person to lose their patience with him. That had the effect of making JingJong even more attached to Ji, and he treated her as if she really was beside him, taking the laptop to stargaze with her and telling her all his emotions. He showed surprising tenderness and love to her, even though he was realizing that the girl on the other side was no normal human. Indeed, Ji was a malicious spirit on the internet who had drained the life out of many men by befriending them online and making them obsessed with her. However, JingJong's genuine love touched her heart, and she began to love him as well, finally asking JingJong whether he wanted to stay with her forever. JingJong agreed without hesitation.
By the time Ma caught on that her apprentice had been ensnared, it was too late. Despite having the vampire TinYau fighting by her side, Ji effectively snatched a willing JingJong away from his home and into her virtual world. JingJong soon learns that the room he always saw Ji in, and the room he was now stuck in, was suspended in a void in the virtual reality. Though told not to ever open the door, he did so the first time she left the room, and was nearly seized by a masked face. Then he was shown Ji's past, where she had been abused by her male colleagues, driving her to the brink of [...]. A masked figure had then appeared and proposed that she kill the men for vengeance instead, and she agreed. Now a malicious and powerful spirit, she had drained the life of many men, JingJong was the first she had kept alive, and the masked figure was curious why. It was soon revealed that the masked man was Nam DaiLik, or Mr. Nam, a bald middle-aged man who lead the two gothic vampires that had challenged Fong earlier in the story.
With the accomplice of Master Peacook and JingJong's own skills, Ma and Fong finally managed to track down where Ji was. They attack and try to exorcise her, but JingJong decides at the last minute to step back on Ji's side. Despite everything he was still in love with her, and agreed to stay by her side for eternity. However, Ji knows that his persistant friends would never keep him truly to her and he would miss them, so she throws him out of the virtual reality world. However, with Fok Sung's help, she becomes permently linked into JingJong's laptop. This way, they could at least frequently see each other.
Now missing a subordinate thanks to Fok Sung, Mr. Nam decides to look for more playthings. He awakens a strange power in Szeto that allowed him to 'heal' anyone - including the blind, the deaf, and the dying. This caused a huge frenzy, and the media began following Szeto "the savior" frequently, taping his miraculous acts. Mr. Nam then turns his attention to BungJin, and has his subordinates turn him into a real vampire. Almost right away, when MeiLoi was endangered BungJin rescued and bit her. Without her knowing, she became a vampire.
Luckily, Ma and Fong found out about MeiLoi's condition before she gave into the urge to drink fresh blood. Fong and FokSung took it upon themselves to teach her how to adjust to her condition, and Ma supervised her warily after MeiLoi nearly drained JingJong of his blood. BungJin, whose vampiric abilities include being able to manipulate the dreams of others, quickly coaxed her to his side. Unlike her, BungJin was drinking blood easily, for that was what Mr.Nam said would increase his power.
As if to counter Mr.Nam's mischief, a fortune telling women named Hak Yue soon appears. She ends up talking to the main characters, and gives them all an unopened flower that will bloom when their destined partner appears. ZhenZhen's bloomed when she was with Szeto, Ma's bloomed when she was Fong, and MeiLoi's bloomed during her dream time with BungJin. The last was the most important, for when the flower bloomed, MeiLoi became pregnant with BungJin's child. Within the lore of the series, vampires can't have children and it was said that if such a child is born it will be called the 'Devil Star.' As a Devil Star, the child is a symbol of blood and death with unspeakable powers. When JingJong tells Ma and Fong of this, they are alarmed. In their dream realm when MeiLoi tells BungJin of this, he is excited and uncaring of the promised disaster. Knowing his child may rival the king of vampires, BungJin decides to create an army of vampires for his unborn child.
The Devil Star's power alarms MeiLoi when it began to speak to her via radio and television. Now with a child, MeiLoi's hunger for blood increased and she could no longer resist the urge. Her first meal was a whole movie crew, leaving behind several bodies for the police, Fong, and Ma to work with. Not daring to call anyone else, she calls ZhenZhen, who tries to protect her. Szeto is also facing his own troubles, for it turns out that he was no "savior". The injuries, illness, and disability of the people he had been 'healing' simply had been transfered to other innocent people. What was more, he was actually suffering a tumour in his brain and was dying. MeiLoi and Szeto were both relying on ZhenZhen to help them, but to their surprise it is Hak Yue who takes them away to a safe sanctuary.
(Skipping to the ending)
In the last few eipsodes, many friends have died and few have survived because of the fight between human and vampire. Nuwa the goddess said that when she return she will end her creations because while she had been watching over the world for many years the humans' constant fighting and unspeakable evil has greatly disappointed her. As a result she puts herself to sleep, and decides when she wakes in 2001 she will destroy Earth and all life on it.
