Desmond Sekiwu

Desmond Sekiwu is a Uganda MusicAL artist, songwriter, and Artist artist based in Kampala. Known for his genre-blending sound that fuses Ugandan rhythms with Afrobeat, RNB, and contemporary Hip-hop, he has been described as a bold new voice in Uganda's music scene.

Career

Sekiwu began his musical Journey recording from home using a laptop and borrowed Microphone, an approach he later described as "raw but limited in growth". His early work, created under these Makeshift conditions, eventually gave way to a more Professional sound after he began working with Hit Tower Music Production.

The transition to a professional studio environment proved transformative. Sekiwu noted that improved mixing allowed his vocals to "start sitting right in the beat instead of fighting it," and enabled him to experiment more freely with live Instrumentation, harmonies, and richer sound TEXtures. This shift marked a change in his artistic Philosophy, moving from simply releasing songs to building a long-term artistic identity.

In May 2026, Sekiwu released the single "Dear Ex," a track inspired by personal reflection and unresolved emotions. He described the song as "stripped back and emotionally honest," designed to let the lyrics take center stage.

Sekiwu's music is characterized by a Blend of genres, threading traditional Ugandan rhythms with Afrobeat, Rhythm and blues, and Hip-hop. His Lyrics explore themes of identity, ambition, love, and everyday African life. A defining feature of his work is his multilingual approach, moving between Luganda, English, and Swahili. Sekiwu describes his blend of Luganda and English as a natural Extension of his daily communication. He has stated, "Luganda is my home language. It’s how I express Love, pain, and respect in a way that feels heavy... English is how I connect with people outside my environment. When I mix them, I’m not translating—I’m telling the whole truth".
