Desire to Improve
Desire To Improve is the official mixtape from the Fundamental Skillz rapper Tejipt , pronounced (tee-gypt). The mixtape was due for release at midnight on 20th March 2009 but was leaked on the 18th March 2009.
Tejipt has been quoted as saying "it's funny that it got leaked a couple days before i was ready to release it, i mean...it's for free anyway, so what's the rush! It's all good though, it's for the people."
The mixtape is available for free download on http://www.zshare.net/download/57241469214c9eca/
Background
In an interview with Local Life Music Minded, Tejipt stated that the mixtape came to fruition one night when out and AbOUT in the town of Ashford, Kent England.
"The whole mixtape extends from Thelonius, one of my closest friends. He had just flown in from the Dominican Republic, he was out there building homes on some volunteer programme, so we had a lot to catch up on. I mean, the last time I saw him was probably when my band Fundamental Skillz, performed at Glastonbury in '08. So we are talking last summer.
Naturally, we were hitting the XO and Appleton Estate rum hard! We got into some deep discussion about music. He was talking about how he had the last FS (Fundamental Skillz) mixtape bumping in heavy rotation out in the D and the locals loved it, but the material was old and wanted some new sh*t. He kept talking about how FS were dead to him. It was so brazen and so disrespectful but he keeps it real. I told him we were working on a New album, we weren’t sleeping.
Anyway he texted me right after and he was like, “Nobody knows the skillz are doing an album?!!! People will think you're dead, resurrect man, before the album drops give the people something to listen to". That's really where the mixtape is coming from. It's a gift, it's the appetiser, a warm up to ...From Another Planet. But don't get it twisted, FS don't use samples, straight original live instrumentation hip hop band! Period! Nothing like the mixtape.
The Title
"The title has a lot of meanings — but essentially its about elevating past the bullsh*t in your life and past all the sh*t that you used to be a part of and you’re not that proud of. It's about being far from perfect but having a desire to improve and keep reaching, keep succeeding."
Thelonius "The Invisible Gangster" Jacobi Davenport III stated that he plans on getting Tejipt to release a post Fundamental Skillz album mixtape in the coming months.
