Denninger's
Founded in 1954, Denninger’s Foods of the World is now one of the largest family-owned specialty food operations in Canada. Denninger’s has its roots in the Black Forest region of Germany were Rudolf Denninger and his wife Frieda operated three stores. The Denninger family immigrated to Canada in 1953 and 6 months later established their first store on King Street East in Hamilton, Ontario’s downtown area. Denninger’s currently has six retail locations, a manufacturing plant and a warehouse in Southern Ontario and employs approximately 250 people.
Denninger’s quickly developed a reputation for the daily production of high quality European style sausages and smoked and fresh meats especially among the European clientele who had immigrated to Canada following the Second World War. New stores were added throughout the 1970s and 1980s and Denninger’s stores were now located beyond Hamilton in Burlington, Oakville and Stoney Creek. These stores were subsequently expanded in the 1980’s and 1990s allowing for an expanded variety of merchandise numbering thousands of products imported directly by Denninger’s from around the world.
Denninger’s has been the recipient of numerous awards including the following to name but a few: (1) annual winners of the Hamilton Spectator (and Burlington Post) Readers’ Choice Award for Best Deli, Best Specialty Foods and Best Sandwich; (2) winner of the 1990 Canadian Retailer of the Year Award from the Canadian Specialty Food Association and (3) 2003 winner of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Award.
Over the past 50 years, there has been one constant and that is the quality of all Denninger products. Quality was the founding criteria of the Company and it still is the same today. The Denninger family, now in its third generation, promises to continue to uphold the ideals of their grandparents to offer the very best in specialty food items and look forward to the prospect of serving their customers for another 50 years.
