Delhi Public School Ghaziabad
Delhi Public School Ghaziabad (DPSG) is a private educational institution of the city of Ghaziabad, India. It started in the year 1980 and since its inception has steadily improved with the standards of education imparted in it. It was recently rated the best school in the city, based on a poll conducted by leading national daily. It has had similar distinctions on many earlier occasions as well. It also has the distinction of being the first school in all of NCR and West UP to get an ISO certification. It got it way back in the early 2000’s.
History
At its inception, it was one of the first Delhi Public School Society schools outside Delhi. Later though, it parted its ways from the original society and a separate DPSG Society was formed under the aegis of a large corporate group based in the city.The society was setup in the year 1980. Shri Dharamvira was its first president. In 2005, the role of the president of the society went to Mr. Satish Kaura (Padmashree).This society has successfully set up four more schools through-out the city, one of them being for a noble cause of serving the under-privileged children.
It is affiliated to CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) New Delhi, is a top ranking educational Institution of Uttar Pradesh.The school comprises of around 15 acres of land and student strength of about 2700. The school,has a membership of the NPSC (National Progressive School Conference), New Delhi. Shri Dharamvira laid the foundation stone of the present senior school building on 19th April, 1981. The school was affiliated to CBSE in the year 1985. During 1996-1997, the first building of the school was replaced by the current school building, known as the Junior School Complex.
The principal of the school is the overall administrative head and is assisted by the three HM’s. Each wing is headed by a Head-Mistress who is assisted by her group of co-ordinators. Each wing has been given great autonomy keeping in view the difference in needs of different age-groups of students.
Campus
The school is strategically located in the UPSIDC Ind. Area on the Delhi- Meerut Highway and has city wide transportation services for its students and teachers. It has a large campus with excellent infrastructural facilities. The sports infrastructure includes a big basketball court, a large cricket/football field, badminton courts etc. In addition to this it also has a 1000+ capacity coliseum and a 150+ capacity open air amphitheatre for cultural events. It also has two air-conditioned auditoriums meant for literary and other small scale events. There are campus wide wireless (wifi) internet facilities and the classrooms are smartclass enabled. The teachers extensively use computer aided techniques of teaching and every teacher has been provided by a laptop from the school. The 12 acre campus is divided into three wings- primary (Classes Nursery- V), secondary (Classes 6-10) and senior secondary ( Classes 11-12). The junior or primary wing has another sub-division, namely the ECE or the Early Childhood Education wing meant for classes nursery to one.
Sports and traditions
The primary, secondary and senior-secondary wings hold separate events and functions of their own. The annual function of the primary wing- Kiddofest, was started in the year 1997, and has since been held successfully every year. The secondary and senior sec. wings join hands for the annual cultural extravaganza held in Oct./Nov.. The school theatre club- Rang Chhaya, remains proactive through-out the year to carry out the two annual cultural marathons successfully. It has also brought laurels to the school by winning several zonal and national level events. The literary committee also remains active through-out the year hosting hoards of intra as well as the inter school literary events. The Inter Public School Debate (popular as the IPS Debate) was started in the year 1990 and today stands as one of the most prestigious school debate competitions of the country. The annual sports fest is held during the first week of December every year along with the annual prize-distribution evening. The school has had the distinction of hosting many national level sporting events owing to its excellent infrastructural facilities.
