Deep Rover
The second generation of the Deep Rover submersibles designated DR1002 were designed and built by Californian company Deep Ocean Engineering in 1994. Deep Ocean Engineering designs and manufactures a range of underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and manned submersible systems. They have over twenty years of operating experience and have designed, built and Delivered over 460 ROV and submersible systems to hundreds of customers worldwide for applications such as security, military, customs, nuclear, hydroelectric, inshore, offshore oil and gas, scientific research and education, fisheries, salvage and broadcast filming.
In 2002 the Deep Rovers were purchased by DeepOcean Expeditions and a partner. The two-person submersibles underwent a substantial rebuild including the installation of a state-of-the-art programmable logic circuit (PLC) system for distribution of power and control functions. The Deep Rovers offer a significant change to historical submersible ocean exploration; the salient new features of the Deep Rovers are the robust acrylic pressure hull, agility in maneuvering, good depth capability (to get below the euphotic (light penetration) depth) zone and portability. They are reliable and comfortable while offering occupants an unprecedented view through their entirely transparent acrylic pressure hull, from which they will be able to explore, observe, scientifically sample and film the wonders of the deep. The 1000 metre (3,280 feet) depth rating gives the Deep Rovers access to 15% of the ocean floor.Viewing for the occupants of the Deep Rovers is exceptional and has been likened to flying a helicopter underwater.
