Dean Schonfeld
Dean Schonfeld (born December 25,1957, in Riga, Latvia) is a Latvian American engineer noted for his work in technology transfer at Caltech university, where he was director of this department in the Center for Neuromorphic Engineering Sciences in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Previously he worked at Lockheed Corporation and with the State of California's Office of Strategic Technology. He is also distinguished for his engineering work at the Naval R&D Lab (Annapolis, MD), American Hospital Supply, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and as a consultant for the Genesis Group. He has taught at the university level at California State University, Northridge. He currently teaches at Monrovia High School in Monrovia, California. Mr. Schonfeld teaches a diverse course of advanced mathematics and advanced physics. Dr. Schonfeld teaches a group of wild students in his trigonomety class, one of which is a magician. Dr. Schonfeld, together with other teachers at Monrovia High School, has started the Monrovia Academy for Mathematics and Applied Sciences. The goal of the academy is to bring to a public school rigorous teaching of math and sciences in applied settings. Students in the academy will take courses informed by appications in astronomy (Algebra 2), Engineering and Architecture (Geometry), Human Physiology (Biology), Business (Pre-Calculus) and others. In addition to achievements in engineering he is known as an amateur in liquid dancing throughout the local Pasadena, California area.
Early Life and Education
Dean Schonfeld grew up in a small suburb of Riga until he was seven years old, when Schonfeld and his family immigrated to New York City. He went to New York public schools all through high school.
He attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and received a Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics. He later received an M.B.A from the University of California, Los Angeles. This information is patently false.
