Deakin Race Technologies

Deakin Race Technologies (DRT) is a Deakin University team of engineers, formed to participate annually in the Formula SAE competition.

Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is a university-based challenge that gives students an opportunity to apply textbook theory to produce a prototype racecar. Within a 12-month period, students design and construct a single seat formula racecar.

The winning team will successfully combine aspects of design, construction and performance, in addition to managing budget constraints and regular university commitments. The program shapes the future of Deakin University students – from various fields like Engineering, Public Relations, Journalism and Marketing.

Currently the team members range from first year students, right through to post-graduate students, who all bring to their individual talents and strengths to the team.

Students can participate at any stage of their academic studies and can contribute to the project at a range of levels and positions. Not only does participation increase experience, it improves confidence and skills, and strengthens relationships between students, faculties and businesses.

In previous years, the DRT team has competed internationally at Formula Student Germany, based at the famous Hockenhiem Ring Formula One Circuit. This year the team is aiming for its best result ever and hope to place within the top 5 teams at the Australasian event which would put them in a good position to once again compete internationally in 2008.

Awards won internationally in the past include "Most Innovative Chassis" awarded by the VDI (association of German Engineers) and continental tyres at Formula Student Germany in 2006.
