Davis was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Florida State University, as well as a degree in Earth Sciences from Tulane University.
In May of 2005, News 2 Storm Team Meteorologist Davis Nolan became one of the first in the nation to earn The New prestigious "Certified Broadcast Meteorologist" designation from the American Meteorological Society. Although Davis has held the AMS Seal of Approval since 1979, this is an upgrade. Applicants had to have a degree in meteorology and take a rigorous exam. He also has held the National Weather Association Seal of Approval since 2001. Davis takes great pride in the accuracy of his weather forecasts, especially during severe weather outbreaks, during which he has tracked storms on air for hours on many occasions.
With Davis's connections to New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina, he spent numerous hours surveying aerial photos of the flooding, as well as studying the causes of the levee and flood wall failures. He presented a paper on this at several conferences, including the American Meteorological Society convention and Mississippi State University Severe Storms Symposium.
Davis's hobbies are music, fishing, and sailing. He is also very ACTIVE in the Middle Tennessee community, and since 1981 has made hundreds of visits to area schools explaining weather to students.
