David De Buck

David De Buck (born March 14, 1979 in Ghent, Belgium) is a gallerist and art dealer and owner of De Buck Gallery in New York City. The former Swiss banker moved to New York in 2008 to establish De Buck Gallery.

Life and career

Due to his parents’ involvement in the contemporary art world, De Buck grew up personally knowing many top European artists, especially those belonging to the New Realist movement, including Christo, Niki de Saint Phalle, Arman and Cesar. This early exposure definitely had a significant impact on De Buck, and contributed to his interest in contemporary art.

De Buck decided to study economics and business, following the example of his grandfather, the founder of Spector International Photo Group (ticker: SPEC). After his studies, he worked in banking in Switzerland in order to gain business experience before turning his attention to art full-time.

In 2008, he found his passion and dedication lay in the arts, and he moved to New York and founded De Buck Gallery. Since moving to Chelsea in September 2010, the gallery has experienced rapid growth thanks to De Buck’s rich past experiences. De Buck Gallery’s artist roster reflects some of the hottest trends on the international art scene, ranging from street art, as practiced by Zevs to the Minimalist tendencies of artists like Jane Manus and Harald Schmitz-Schmelzer. These artists build upon the legacy of the late twentieth-century artists who first developed these areas decades ago, while creating unquestionably contemporary works of art. The intersection of technology and art is also a prime area of interest for De Buck Gallery, as evidenced by Hans Kotter’s LED light sculptures and Ruby Anemic’s neon works. Other artists represented by De Buck Gallery include Dieter Balzer, John Clement, David Drebin, Dion Johnson, Fernando Monteil Klint, Victor Matthews, Georges Moquay, Regine Schumann, and William Sweetlove. In addition, De Buck Gallery maintains an inventory of selective blue-chip secondary market artists, primarily from the fields of New Realism and Pop Art.

Personal life

The Belgian gallerist is married to Danielle Stapen. They have two daughters together Chloe, who was born in 2010, and Sienna, born in 2012.
