Dark Magician Girl
Dark Magician Girl (Black Magician Girl in the Japanese version) is a card in the Dark Magician series. In the anime series the character is VOICED by Bella Hudson in English and Yuki Nakao in Japanese. Her name is commonly abbreviated "DMG" or "DM Girl".
Anime/Manga History
This card was first seen in the Battle City arc, where Yugi Mutou uses this card against Pandora (Arkana in the English anime). Seeing as Yugi's Dark Magician had been destroyed in order to block the damage that would have been dealt by Pandora's Ectoplasmer, Yugi summoned the Dark Magician Girl (Thanks to Pandora's Magic Card) to take advantage of Dark Magician being in the Graveyard. What surprised Pandora was that this applied to both Graveyards, thus increasing Dark Magician Girl's attack points by 300 for the Dark Magician in Pandora's Graveyard. Thus the Dark Magician Girl's attack points rose to 2600, enough to destroy Pandora's new Dark Magician and win the Duel for Yugi. (At the start of the duel we can see Magician of Black Chaos in Arkana's hand, before Yugi played Card Destruction, meaning her attack should have rose to 2900.)
She also appears when Yugi duels the Pantominer (Strings the Quiet One in the English anime). When the Pantominer calls upon the Egyptian God Slifer the Sky Dragon, and its abilities enable it to crush Yugi's Buster Blader, Yugi calls the Dark Magician Girl in DeFence position. However, this triggers Slifer's second ability, which subtracts 2000 points from whatever position a monster is in when it is summoned and if that statistic is reduced to zero the monster is destroyed. This would have destroyed the Dark Magician Girl had Yugi not used Magical Hats to conceal and protect her. Slifer then attacked a random hat, luckily choosing the one containing the Dark Magician Girl. Yugi responded with Magic Cylinder, which would reflect the attack and strike Slifer With It, destroying it. However, the power of Revival Jam and Jam Defender enabled Revival Jam, a regenerating monster, to block the assault. The Dark Magician Girl was destroyed the following turn by Slifer.
Yugi next uses Dark Magician Girl in his Duel against Dark Bakura but not with much success. Although she does destroy Bakura's Dark Necrofear due to the fact her power was increased with Magic Formula, this only releases Dark Sanctuary, Bakura's key card. Using Dark Sanctuary, Bakura can select one monster on Yugi's field every turn and if that monster attacks, then the attack is negated and Bakura gains Life Points equal to half the attacking monster's attack points while Yugi loses as many Life Points. Furthermore, using The Dark Door, Bakura limits Yugi's attacks per turn to one, making attacking a dangerous proposition. With cards such as Dark Spirit of The Silent, Bakura was able to choose what monsters Yugi had to attack with and Dark Magician Girl, being the strongest monster on Yugi's field, was often the target of this and Bakura's Dark Sanctuary. She was ultimately tributed when Yugi tributed his three monsters to play Slifer.
During the Virtual World arc in the second series anime, the Dark Magician Girl acted as the Deck Master for Téa Gardner (Anzu Mazaki in the English-language manga and the Japanese versions) when she dueled against Crump (Shuzo Otaki in the Japanese second series anime, not named in the manga), one of the Big Five, even encouraging Téa not to give up. She was eventually summoned to the field by Téa when Téa had no other monsters to use and the Deck Master ability of the Dark Magician Girl was instrumental in allowing Téa to draw Sage's Stone. This card summoned a Dark Magician to the field from the duellist's deck when a Dark Magician Girl was present on the field. Therefore, this card takes the Dark Magician from Yugi's Deck and summons it to Téa's field. The two magicians are easily able to annihilate Crump's defence and his Life Points.
- Deck Master Ability: Remove all monsters in the controller's Graveyard from play. Draw cards from your Deck equal to the number of monsters removed by this effect. This effect can only be used once during the Duel.
In the Duel against Dark Marik, where Yugi briefly utilizes her at the end of the Duel along with Dark Magician in order to activate the Spell Card Ragnorak, which can only been activated when two Spellcaster type monsters are on his side of the field. Ragnorak then removed every monster from Yugi's Deck, hand, and Graveyard in exchange for crushing every monster on Marik's field, which turned out to be the Winged Dragon of Ra fused with the soul of Dark Marik. Therefore, when the Winged Dragon of Ra was destroyed in this fashion, the positions of Marik and his darker half were switched, and from this Marik forfeited the Duel, giving Yugi the victory. At least in the English version, she can be seen at the bottom of Yugi's deck at one point in his six-episode Duel against rival Seto Kaiba.
Dark Magician Girl played a central role in the second series anime-only Waking the Dragons (Doma) arc, as she served as an intermediary for the populace Monster World. She is instrumental in allowing the chosen warriors (Yugi Mutou, Seto Kaiba, and Joey Wheeler (Katsuya Jonouchi in the English-language manga and Japanese versions)) in unlocking their respective Legendary Dragon Cards (Eye of Timaeus, Fang of Critias, and the Claw of Hermos respectively). But prior to that, Yugi summoned Dark Magician Girl in a Duel against the first of the Orichalcos duellists, when he increased her power with Magical Academy, and he uses Diffusion Wave-Motion to attack all monsters on his opponent's field. This wiped out all of the Orichalcos duellist's token monsters, and depleted the remainder of his Life Points. She then appeared in the two Duels against Rafael, Dark Magician Girl is combined with the Timaeus in order to assume the form of Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight. In the first Duel against Rafael, the Dark Magician Girl was hesitant when Dark Yugi, who is being corrupted by the power of the Seal of Orichalcos, ordered her to be tributed for Catapult Turtle's effect. She did, but Yugi would go on to lose that Duel after Raphael summons Guardian Eatos, which was able to remove all monsters in Yugi's Graveyard and absorb their strength. Yugi uses Dark Magician Girl when he Duels against Dark Yugi in the valley of spirits. Here, the Dark Magician Girl is launched with Catapult Turtle, much like how Dark Yugi did in his Duel against Rafael. In the final battle against Dartz, Dartz's Divine Serpent attacks with an attack strength of infinity. The attack wipes out Yugi's remaining Life Points, but Yugi activates Relay Soul, which allows him to summon Dark Magician Girl and remain in the Duel as long as she remains on the field. Finally, when Dartz summons the Leviathan, Dark Magician Girl opens a portal to the Duel Monster world, and leads an attack against the Leviathan with Yugi, Seto and Joey.
In Yu-Gi-Oh Grand Championship, Dark Magician Girl made several appearances, especially in the last Duel, when Yugi fought Leon. Ultimately, she was destroyed by Leon's Cinderella monster.
In the Memory World arc, it is revealed that the Dark Magician Girl was originally the Ka monster of a mage-in-training named Mana who was a friend of the Pharaoh Atem and the apprentice of Mahad. In both the manga and anime, it is apparent that she was quite flirtatious with both her teacher and the pharaoh (leading to pairings between her and the two); also, when Mahad died Mana became stricken with grief and cried heavily but when Atem was pronounced dead, she didn't seem to be as upset. In addition, Mahad becomes a guiding force to her even after his death and assisted her Ka in battle. After her teacher became the Dark Magician, she was said to have became more powerful until she followed her mentor into joining with her Ka-monster to become Dark Magician Girl. This explains the effect of her attack power increasing for Dark Magician cards in the Graveyard. After the death of her mentor, and the death of Bakura, she becomes one of the six guardians to the new Pharaoh Seto and wields the Millennium Ring the symbol of her mentor's power.
Dark Magician Girl also appeared in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. The first time was when Dimitri took Yugi's deck and used it to challenge Jaden Yuki. The second time was during the Duel Academy's school festival where she helped to cheer up Jaden and his friends and dueled him to lift everyone’s spirits. Despite losing, she cheerfully admitted she enjoyed the Duel. She left afterwards, but not before giving Syrus Truesdale, who thought she was cute, a goodbye kiss. Also in the triangle Duel between Chronos, Napoleon, and Pegasus, Pegasus summons Toon Dark Magician Girl, which he uses in combination with Toon Kingdom to keep her from being destroyed in battle. This last appearance was shocking to everyone since they didn't know a "Toon" version of this card exists.

Appearance
Dark Magician Girl's outfit is very similar to Dark Magician's except that it is mainly blue and pink with a few touches of yellow. She has blond hair, green eyes (blue in the anime), and wields a wand that matches her outfit. She is often considered a [...] symbol in many circles, due to her provocative clothing and ample bust size. In English versions of the anime and cards, her bust is reduced by erasing cleavage lines.
Rarity and availability
The Dark Magician Girl is now only moderately rare in the English version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game (some versions are extremely difficult to acquire); it can be found in the Magician's Force Booster Pack series (MFC-000; Secret Rare), Rise of Destiny Special Edition (RDS-ENSE2; Ultra Rare) boxes and the 2005 Collectors Tins (CT2-EN004; Secret Rare). In Japan, the card is readily available in a number of Structure decks as well as Premium and Limited Edition packs. The original version of the card was a prize in a major tournament in Japan, similar to the original Blue-eyes Ultimate Dragon. As a result, all later Japanese versions of the card are printed with the word "Replica" in the bottom left corner. This practice has not been carried over to the English game, where the normal 8-digit card code is present. To date, the Dark Magician Girl is one of the few cards popular enough to be given an alternate art, which appeared in the 2005 Collectors Tin. This artwork was originally seen in the two Yugi Mutou Structure Decks in Japan, as the Ultra Rare in Volume 1, and as a common card in Volume 2.
Differences
The hexagram on her upper outfit in the Japanese version is replaced by a red jewel in the English version; in the English version her cleavage is also reduced. She is sometimes seen in a red outfit in counterfeit cards and fan-arts, just as the Dark Magician is dressed in both red and purple on his card variants. In some japanese versions, there is visible nudity.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Destiny Board Traveler
In that game, Dark Magician Girl is the only playable character that is also a Yu-Gi-Oh! card. Her Super Power allows her to call upon Dark Magician, Dark Paladin, Dark Sage or Mirage Knight to aid her in her next duel.
