Dario Margeli
Dario Margeli is an Italian-American rock singer-songwriter that sings protest songs covering socio economic issues in Italian, English and Spanish.
Early Years
While still a teenager he started writing songs .
Career
Margeli is credited as creating the liner notes for a 1970's psychedelic rock album 2011 reissue.
He claims to have resumed making music in 2010 using YouTube and mass emails to the media as the means of self promotion . He has collaborated with American guitar player Hugh Williams. . This first song, Dentro Un Vortice was re-released in March 2012 with Italian lyrics and its video featured a Belly Dancing instructor. In March 2011 he released the single Quell Allegro Calore with lyrics by Turin based lyricist Roberto Caiato . In October 2011, came the third single Somebody Pull Me Up with guitars performed by Hat Trick. The production had louder, more simple raunchier guitars than the previous two releases. The lyrics talk AbOUT how regular people feel trapped in a social system of low paying jobs and bleak future. .
2012
In May 2012 Vice Magazine in Italy ran an article on the song "Buongiorno Fino A Quando Servo" (Good Morning As Long As I Am Useful) highlighting the blunt lyrics of the song. It also points out how the author finds the graphics in the video irritating, leaving it to the reader to decide if he is the next big thing or not . Some have labeled the lyrics of the song, in which the singer complains about being laid off from work, as leftist political lyrics . Thanks to people sharing the video on Tumblr the song also made it on Hype Machine
Style
The lyrics of the songs he sings often deal with the frustration of being a regular employee in the current economy. He uses acoustic guitar and string sounds to create a feeling of sadness. Musically the vocal melodies come from experimenting with Middle-Eastern musical scales and then transposing them into Western Rock music structures. He has been compared with Italian singer Franco Battiato. .
Collaborations
His first three singles received remixes produced by Hungarian producer BiTbear , a producer who has worked with Näd Mika, Pierre Pascal and many others.
