Danielle Kwateng
Danielle Kwateng (also known professionally as Dani Kwateng) is an American journalist, editor, entrepreneur, and educator. She is now the Executive Managing Editor, Harper's Bazaar.
Early life and education
Kwateng was born in Delray Beach, Florida. She pursued higher education at Howard University, where she earned a degree combining print journalism and fashion merchandising. Following her undergraduate studies, Kwateng attended a publishing course at the Columbia University.
Career
Kwateng began her media career holding editorial positions at Glamour Magazine and People StyleWatch. She subsequently worked at Style Blazer, Essence Magazine, and VICE.
Concurrently, Kwateng worked as a writer, contributing articles to publications including Allure, Cultured, The Huffington Post, And Self Magazine. She also provided cultural commentary through appearances on broadcast programs, including Good Morning America and The Zerlina Maxwell Show.
Kwateng founded The Volta, an e-commerce platform dedicated to showcasing Black artisans. She collaborated with lifestyle businesses in Accra and New York, advising on strategies to engage Millennial and Gen Z consumers. She also served as a Creative Direction Mentor at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Florence.
She has delivered lectures and participated in speaking engagements for institutions including Harvard University, Parsons School of Design, City University of New York (CUNY), New York University (NYU) Graduate School of Journalism, and corporations such as Apple, Meta (formerly Facebook), and HBO.
From 2019 to 2021, Kwateng was the Entertainment and Culture Director at Teen Vogue and became the Executive Editor in April 2021.
Personal life
Kwateng is married to McMillan Mackay, a tech entrepreneur and computer engineer. The couple has two sons. She resides in New York City and also spends part of her time in Accra, Ghana.
