Daniel Ortiz de Carvalho

Daniel Ortiz de Carvalho is a Brazilian writer who began his career in entertainment in 1997 after attending a screenplay course at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. In 1998, he moved to Peru to work with director Luis Llosa (“Anaconda”, “The Specialist”) and wrote his first soap opera “Sin Limites” for Iguana Producciones. He also worked for Frecuencia Latina, second largest television network in Peru.

In 2002, Daniel worked for TV Azteca in Mexico in the production of channel’s first reality show “La Academia”, the most successful Mexican reality show to date. Since 2003, Daniel has been working for the Televisa Group in Mexico, the world's largest Spanish-language media company, and wrote his second soap opera, “Lazos de Odio”, "Fuera Dolor", among other projects. In 2008, he won a soap opera contest organized by the Mexican Writers Society (SOGEM) an equivalent of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) in the United States. In most of his television projects, Daniel has worked with Peruvian writer and actress Sandra Finkelstain, a successful professional partnership that has lasted for more than 10 years.

In 2005, he wrote his first screenplay, “Segurança Nacional” from the Brazilian director Roberto Carminatti, starring Milton Gonçalvez, Tiago Lacerda and Gracindo Jr. The movie will be release in May 2010. In 2007, along with the Mexican writer Mauricio Saraya, Daniel wrote his first short length movie “Sentido Comun”, produced by Paradigma Short Movies. Daniel is currently writing another screenplay with writer Juan Jose Goldaracena which will be produced in 2010 by Detalle Films and Mexican producer Moises Cosio. Daniel is also currently writting a soap opera for MBC , the largest media and broadcasting group in the Middle East.

Daniel graduated in International Relations from the University of Brasilia, and started his professional career working in the Human Rights field. He worked for the United Nations in Denmark and for the International Secretariat of Amnesty International in London, with extensive humanitarian work in African countries, such as Senegal, Ghana and the Ivory Cost.

Although, Daniel was born and raised in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, he has lived in several cities around the world, such as Lisbon, London, Sheffield, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Copenhagen, Cape Town, Los Angeles, Lima and Brasilia and has currently been living in Mexico City for the past 6 years.
