Daniel George (ice hockey)

Daniel George (born 3 December 1981) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Adelaide Adrenaline in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career

George first played for the Adelaide Falcons of the South Australia Ice Hockey Association in 2001. He remained at the Falcons for the following season but in 2003 signed with the Adelaide Avalanche of the Australian Ice Hockey League. George played for the Avalanche for three seasons before leaving the team in after the end of the 2005 season. In 2010 George returned to ice hockey after a four year absence signing with the Adelaide Tigers of the South Australia Ice Hockey Association's A Grade league. In his first season back George competed in 13 games, scoring nine points. The following year George signed with the Adelaide Adrenaline of the Australia Ice Hockey League, returning to the countries top competition level after being out for five seasons. He competed in 21 regular season games, the most he has competed in during a single season. George also remained with the Tigers for the 2011 A Grade season in which he competed in 15 games and scored 22 points.

George was first called up to represent Australia in 2001 where he joined the national under-20 team to compete in the 2001 IIHF World U20 Championship Division III tournament being held in Belgrade, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Australia finished last while George managed a single assist in his four games. The following year George was called up to represent the national senior team to compete in the 2002 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Cape Town, South Africa. Australia finished fourth while George again managed only a single assist during the tournament. George received three more consecutive call-ups to the national senior team from 2003 to 2005 to compete at the World Championships. In 2004 the team finished third during their Division II Group A tournament earning George his first medal in international competition. The following year George represented Australia for the last time during the 2005 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Zagreb, Croatia. Australia finished in second behind hosts Croatia men's national ice hockey team while George failed to record any points for his five games during the tournament.
