Daniel Draper (filmmaker)

Daniel Draper (born 6 June 1987) is an English documentary filmmaker.

Early life

Draper is film graduate from Liverpool.

Career

In 2012, Draper and Frankie Cowley made a documentary AbOUT Peter Deary and Owen Moran called We Wouldn't Want To Knock It. The film, shot in a naturalistic and free form style, explores Deary's MusicAL career and his personal relationship with Moran.

Draper interviewed Dennis Skinner for a documentary about Robert Tressell's book The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists which Draper made to mark the 100th anniversary of its publication in 2014, called Still Ragged: 100 Years of The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists.

Draper approached Skinner about making a feature-length documentary about his life and contribution to British politics. After a 90-minute phone conversation Skinner decided he trusted Draper to make the documentary Dennis Skinner: Nature of the Beast which was released in 2017.

Personal life

Draper lives in Liverpool. His partner is producer and editor Christie Allanson.

Draper became truly politicised after reading The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists. He funded Nature of the Beast on a budget of £2,400 by working part-time as a chef.
