Daniel Atz
Daniel Atz (born September 1, 1988) is an American-Luxembourgish entrepreneur, researcher, and filmmaker. He is the founder of LuxCitizenship and Citizenship.EU, consultancy firms specializing in European Union citizenship by descent. Atz is frequently cited in international media as an expert on the "Trump effect" on American emigration, documenting surges in U.S. demand for dual citizenship following major political shifts.
Early life and education
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Atz earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Loyola University Chicago. He also holds a Certificate in Advanced Business Chinese from the University of International Business and Economics in China.
In 2014, Atz reclaimed his Luxembourgish nationality through ancestry. In 2017, following an RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg broadcast about his work, a relative in Luxembourg recognized his great-grandmother in a photograph. This led to a televised family reunion in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Career
Citizenship consultancy
In 2016, Atz founded LuxCitizenship to assist the Luxembourgish diaspora in reclaiming nationality. The firm has assisted over 2,500 applicants, particularly from the United States and Brazil. He later launched Citizenship.EU, a platform utilizing artificial intelligence to assess citizenship eligibility across all 27 European Union member states.
Research and media
As the founder of the American Emigration Revue, Atz studies the "Exit Mindset"—a psychological shift among Americans seeking dual citizenship as a form of "insurance" against domestic political and social instability. His work analyzing the impact of events such as the reversal of Roe v. Wade and U.S. presidential elections has been featured in L'essentiel, Luxembourg Times, and Saarbrücker Zeitung.
Filmmaking and institutional relations
Atz produced the documentary Lëtzebuerger an Argentinien (Luxembourgers in Argentina), which details the migration of Luxembourgish immigrants to South America in the 1880s. In 2022, he led a delegation to Rio Negro, Paraná, Brazil, to meet with local authorities and the Association of Luxembourgish Citizens of Brazil (ACLUX) to strengthen ties with the diaspora.
