Dana Hursey

Dana Hursey is an American photographer based in Los Angeles, California. His work includes advertising, portraiture, documentary, and fine-art photography.

Biography

Hursey is a Southern California native. He studied photography at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. He has also taught and lectured at ArtCenter. His work includes advertising, lifestyle, food, portraiture, and conceptual photography. His work has included advertising campaigns for companies such as Lowe's, Disney, Volkswagen, Four Seasons, and UnitedHealthcare.

He contributed more than 600 portraits to 14 Days in Great Britain, a documentary photography project. He also contributed photographs to Cart for a Cause, a cookbook featuring recipes from Los Angeles chefs, with proceeds benefiting St. Vincent Meals on Wheels. Hursey has exhibited his photography in the United States and internationally. His work has also appeared in publications and photography annuals, including Communication Arts Photography Annual. Hursey joined the American Photographic Artists' National Executive Board as vice president in 2017 and served as national president in 2022.

Awards and recognition

Hursey was selected for Lürzer's Archive's 200 Best Ad Photographers for six consecutive years.

He was a finalist in the Hasselblad Masters competition in 2012, 2014, and 2016. His work has also received recognition from the International Photography Awards and the American Photographic Artists, and has been featured in Communication Arts Photography Annual.
