Damietta University

Damietta University is an extension of Mansoura University in Damietta (Arabic: دمياط Dumyāṭ), in the Damietta Governorate in Egypt. The idea of opening classes for some faculties there began when the number of Mansoura University students in Damietta increased. The decision to open branch colleges followed. The Faculty of Education opened for the academic year 1976-77, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Commerce in 1985-86, The Faculty of Specific Education, in 1990-91, The Faculty of Applied Arts in 2004-05 then faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Physical Education in 2006-07.

In 2007, presidential decree 276 established a branch in Damietta. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bassiouni Sweilem Vice President of Mansoura University for Education and Student Affairs oversaw the affairs of the branch until decree 141 on 17/1/2008, to appoint Prof. Bishri Abdel-Hamid as the first Vice President for Damietta Branch affairs. The Faculty of Applied Arts, Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Agriculture are located on the same campus in Alasar district. The Faculties of Science, Education, Commerce, Specific Education and Physical Education are scattered around New Damietta City. In July 2012, Presidential Decree No. 19 of 2012 establishing Damietta University in New Damietta was issued.

Site

190 acres have been allocated to the University. 150 acres were transferred and the remainder is in process. A design competition for the campus is underway.

New Damietta City is characterized by its location on the international highway that links the governorates of Dakahlia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Albehera, Port Said and the Suez Canal area. It is also characterized by its natural, industrial and tourist resources.
