Crystalyne
Crystalyne is a Canadian rock band from the city of Toronto Canada and formed in 2011. The group gained popularity through its YouTube channel and extensive touring schedule. The band has opened for the likes of Marianas Trench, Lights, Down With Webster, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Bridgit Mendler to name a few. The band saw a high increase in fans after playing Marianas Trench's Face The Music tour.
The Navigate EP was an INCredible debut for the band. The EP itself led the band its first cross-Canada tour, first time playing Warped Tour 2012, and landed the band 3 Ontario/Quebec tours. It also landed the band an opening slot on the Face The Music Tour alongside Canadian pop rockers Marianas Trench, and Down With Webster.
History
In late 2012/early 2013 the band commenced the writing process for what would become The Remedy EP. The band continued to tour and play shows in Ontario and Quebec while writing for the record, and garnered once again more attention from AP Magazine, Warped Tour 2013 and various other media and social media outlets. The band would land a spot playing Canada Day 2013 in Mississauga alongside Down With Webster to a crowd of 20,000 people in the heart of the city. In August 2013, the band landed a support slot at Sudbury SummerFest supporting fellow Canadian pop artist, Carly Rae Jepsen. The band also released its first new material in the form of the single "Secret". A music video for the song was released in September 2013 and the video was directed by Dan Wood, its first with the director. The video's reception was largely positive, as the band's new material was in a slightly different direction than the previous EP. The band's sound had matured impressively over the course of 2 years, and the songs were very well written.
In October 2013 the band launched a PledgeMusic campaign to help fund the band next EP. The band offered up movie dates, exclusive merchandise, guitar lessons, liner notes in the credits of the EP, sushi dates etc. and eventually with the support of fans, raised $10,000 to launch the record.
In November 2013 Crystalyne and Courage My Love teamed up for an extensive tour of Ontario and Quebec. In support of the tour, the bands swapped covers of each other's songs on YouTube. CRYSTALYNE released "The Remedy" on the first night of the tour in Toronto November 26, 2013. The release saw Crystalyne garner a tremendous amount of attention as pop music and Crystalyne's edgy take on the genre caught people by surprise.
After the tour, the band was given the honorable title of being listed in the 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2014 by Alternative Press. The band then headlined their own showcase in May 2014 for Canadian Music Week and launched the #PUNKSDONTDANCETOUR for the following 3 weeks.
The band was featured on 99.9 Virgin Radio's Pump It or Dump It segment for breaking new artists in April, with their single "Punks Don't Dance". The band received a 99.9% Pump It vote, and was played on the station in recognition. The band won a national contest put on by Bell Media which ran off of a fan vote shortly afterwards for their song "6 In The Morning" and won MusicAL equipment, studio time, radio play, and cold hard cash as a reward. The band released a thank you to their fans and praised them for being the reason the band was able to achieve the prizes.
The band announced shortly afterwards, they would be touring with Canadian pop rockers Marianas Trench and Lights at Big Red Music Festival in Charlottetown, PEI Canada and SCENE Music Festival in St Catharines, ON Canada in June 2014. Crystalyne is said to have had a numerous amount of big cameras following their every move at the SCENE Fest date of their tour in June 2014. A tweet posted on the band's Twitter by guitarist Josh Given later revealed they were shooting a music video. Tweets from the show later revealed the band was shooting a video for "Let It Go". The band also announced they'd be playing Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto August 23 with Cody Simpson as part of Family Channel's Big Ticket Summer Concert. This will mark Crystalyne's first show at the big amphitheatre in Toronto, and their biggest show to date in the city.
