CPL2 Data Logger
TheCPL2 Data logger is a creation of Borgtech Pty Ltd a Melbourne Australian Company in conjunction with Successful Endeavours Engineering . The technology behind it was developed to meet the needs of the Asset Management companies, more specifically in the corrosion monitoring sector of Gas pipelines in Melbourne. Creation of the instrument's electronics began in early 2006 with the prototype and production of the first engineering CPL1 logger (Picture as seen on the right). 2009 Winner of the EDN Innovation Awards, CPL2 receives 2 Highly Commended prizes in Sydney NSW on the 17/09/09 for:
- Best Application Of Analogue Design
- Best Application Of Design Software
See EDN site http://www.electronicsnews.com.au/Awards.aspx
- Basic application of the instrument is to measure and record data from assets in the form of voltage or current readings looking at changes in a graph to determine what level of protection the structure has from a Cathodic Protection System.
- Another use is to measure current readings from the electrolysis effect of corrosion on an asset such as a water mains pipeline. See Electrolysis Oxidation effect Electrolysis

Borgtech CPL2 technical details
The Borgtech CPL2 Corossion Protection Data Logger monitors a voltage through its high impedance input. The input has an impedance of 10MOhm and includes overvoltage protection to allow it to withstand 5000V for 2 seconds or 250VAC continuously. This covers both lightning transient protection and leakage from mains voltage sources. The input also includes filtering to get rid of 50Hz and 60Hz mains interference. For details on the filtering specifics and the use of Electronics Design of the Analogue Electronics can be found at Successful Endeavours Blog .
Apart from the Analogue Electronics front end which won 2 National Awards in 2009, there is also a Low Power Electronics strategy which allows the unit to log results to internal Data Flash over a period of 6 months while operating from 3 AA Batteries. You can read more about ways to ensure you design Low Power Electronics at Successful Endeavours Blog .
