COX:Desires of Fate
Desires of Fate is the second installment of the sci-fi novel series Chronicles of Xrecent, a story by J. V. Marion Opeda. The Chronicles of Xrecent series was initially designed to tell the story of the author’s personal experiences during his college life. Funny thing about this setting is that the main character is not focused on the author himself but to someone else. The author is still a character in this story but during the first parts of the series, he will not be visible at all. It’s up to you to find out who he really is in this story.
Scenes and characters here are not entirely fictional. Most of them are based on actual people and events. The author would like to extend his gratitude to the many people that helped in the creation of this story including the input from the host characters themselves.
This story is a winning entry at the 2006 NaNoWriMo contest. It was created on a Wednesday, November 8, 2007 at around 8:08:15 AM, 8 days after the start of the NaNoWriMo event. It was finished on Monday, January 15, 2007, 6:28:32 AM bearing the total word count of 63,769.
Plot summary
It’s the second semester here at Ziggurat Intitute of Technology as Hikaru and her friends move on to their next challenge, forming a group and joining the Yulla Cup. This is an event held twice a year where contenders battle their skills out to show who has the best skill in computers.
Being freshmen, Hikaru and her team is bound to lose this event yet a tip from their club’s higher up suggest they could win if they could only find the Anacranox. It is a book made by her older brother who had passed away many years ago.
Rumors say that this book is so informative that several times have it been attemptidly stolen and on all account it was used to bring terror and havoc into the people close to it.
One day the book had gone missing and it’s up to Hikaru and her team to try and solve the mystery and hope they could get the information they need before the big event.
Characters
- Hikaru Opeda :
Hikaru Opeda is the main protagonist of the story. She is a very will-powered girl and often gets her way through tough events. She stands out as a silent leader and although she does not usually guide the group, her attitude towards things makes it a natural for her to lead the way.
Her friends are more active than her and are usually more colorful when it comes to their characters yet she stands out in a way unlike other. Her steadiness in the things she do and her will to become as great as her older brother pushes her to the limits and this alone is what makes her special.
In this installment, the trance sessions of Hikaru are made seen in public for the first time as she used it during the event with contestants seeing her trance in active use.
Hikaru only appears as if she’s the main character of the story but in fact there’s a deeper sense in the story that will soon overshadow her.
- Govie Opeda :
Hikaru’s older brother. His past is the greatest mystery in the entire story. Unveiling only a part of him, each book shows a much darker side most people never get to see or even realize about the world of computers.
He is called by a lot of names back when he still existed. There are even rumors of him being the infamous Xrecent. A hacker that was so great, he was assassinated after failing to join a company that he had hacked.

This novel has been awarded as one of the winners of the 2006 NaNoWriMo event.
