Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers

CIBBOWS Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers (CIBBOWS) is non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting the sport of open water swimming. They host free year-round training swims in Coney Island and Brighton Beach, NY. They also advocate to improve public access to NYC waters.

Since 2005, CIBBOWS has presented a series of fun and challenging ocean races, including some distance and cold-water events. In 2010 they hosted a 5k charity swim in chilly 54F water to raise money for Veteran's organizations. One of their oldest swims honors Grimaldo Medrano, a Brighton Beach lifeguard who was one of the groups earliest supporters.

CIBBOWS members are very accomplished swimmers, and they provide guidance for all levels of swimmers, from those getting their first taste of salt water to those who dream of crossing the English Channel. They are open to anyone with an interest in open water swimming. CIBBOWS has facilitated Brooklyn's rise as a premiere destination for those interested in the sport of open water swimming.
