CPEC (Communication Power Engineering Company) (BSE: 505678) is a solar photovoltaic power plant developer and operator in India and Africa, founded in Mumbai, India, with headquarters in London, United Kingdom.

As of 2013, the company consists of 40 employees worldwide.

History

CPEC was founded in 1942 as a manufacturer of gear boxes, and in 1962, it entered into a joint venture with Crofts Engineering Limited (later acquired by Renold plc) to become India's first and largest manufacturer and exporter of transmission gear equipment. CPEC was listed on the Bombay STOCK Exchange (BSE) in 1979.

Solar photovoltaic

Following a management restructuring and sale of its gear manufacturing facilities in 2010, CPEC acquired 140 acres of land in Gujarat, India, and built its first 5 MW solar photovoltaic power plant with a power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). Since then, CPEC has built, operated, owned and transferred several solar photovoltaic power plants.
