Command & Conquer Factions

The Command & Conquer franchise is a network of 13 games with numerous different factions which the player can choose to play as in the game. Such factions include the Global Defense Initiative, The United States of America, and The Soviet Union. These factions have appeared in games from 1995 to 2007 .

Tiberian Universe

The Tiberian Universe was the first universe in the Command & Conquer series. It featured a conflict between the global powers of GDI and NOD. The series has since grown to include factions such as Cabal and Scrin

GDI

The Global Defense Initiative is a fictitious group formed by the United Nations to maintain world peace. The group was introduced in the first Command & Conquer games as the "good guys". Their main objective is to cease activities from the [...] organization known as NOD and their evil agenda.

GDI's relies on sheer strength. Examples of this are the Ion Cannon, and the Mammoth Tank which are designed to allow the player to reek havoc upon the battlefield. The Ion Cannon has become a symbol of GDI with its "Star Wars like" look.

NOD

NOD is depicted as the enemy in the Command & Conquer series. The group wants nothing short of the eradication of GDI, and the spread of the toxic "tiberium" to install a "new world order". It is the main antagonist of the series, though it is sometimes eclipsed by a greater evil than itself.

The organization is headed by a man who refers to himself only by " Kane". He masterminds all the operation of NOD and is a persistend threat to GDI. He has been shown in the series to know much about the history of the toxic "tiberium". ‎

In most Command & Conquer games, when the player plays through the NOD storyline, the ending is usually a bonus ending and does not show the "true" ending for the game. It usually depicts a scene of NOD domination and GDI suffering and scrutiny. However, in recent games, NOD's story goes hand-in-hand with GDI's

Scrin

Scrin is an alien life form represented in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. It comes to Earth because its trackers picked up a massive explosion of tiberium during the events of the campaign of the game. The Scrin want to harvest the tiberium for their own purposes and did not intend on such heavy human resistance to their forces. Subsequently, a war is ignited between GDI and Scrin to determine the fate of the planet's ruler(s).

At the end of the campaign of Tiberium Wars, the Scrin are defeated by superior GDI tactics and commanders.

Red Alert Universe

Allies

The Allies are a coalition between several Western European nations (and later America) to combat the forces of the Soviet Union which invade Europe in Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Originally, the Allies are made up of: The United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and other nations . In the first game, the player is able to overcome the Soviet Forces in the Allied Single player Campaign and launches his/her forces into Moscow in a stunning victory.

In the sequal entitles Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, the Allies once again band together for another long desperate war against the Soviet Union. However this time, they are joined by The United States of America. The Allied Campaign involves the player commanding forces to liberate area such as Washington D.C., Chicago, and Hawaii. Once Again, the Allies are able to stem the tide of Soviet Forces with the help of the player's superior command abilities. THey are then able to take Moscow in a surprise attack on the city, quickly ending the war.

Soviets

The Soviets are first introduced to the Command & Conquer universe in Command & Conquer Red Alert where in the Soviet Campaign, the player commands forces in a domination of Europe. The Soviet player is able to utilize heavy and powerful units such as a Nuclear Missile and a Mammoth Tank in the game.

In the first game, although the Soviets ultimately lose in the "true ending" of the game, if the player completes the Soviet Campaign, he/she can view an alternate ending in which the SOviet Union has invaded London and Europe and fallen to Soviet armies. During this time, parades are taken un all across Europe from St. Petersburg, to Paris.

In the second game, the defeated SOviets regroup under new leader ship and plot their latest scheme with assistance from the player in Soviet Campaign. In the alternative "Pro-Soviet" ending to the game, the player is shown to assume command of the Soviet Union as Soviet Forces crush the last Allied Remanents in Alaska.

Generals Universe

In Command & Conquer: Generals and its expansion Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour, the player is allowed to utilize factions representing several real-world militaries and organizations.

United States of America

In both games, the USA is seen trying to maintain world security in a role of a "policing nation" to stop [...] activity which the player must defeat. The USA's intentions are to halt all major threats to free-world peace and security.

The USA utilizes quick, evasive tactics such as Humvees and Aircraft supported by stealth technology such as the Stealth Fighter. In the game, the player's forces are heavily based on real world counter parts to make the campaign feel more realistic compared to other games in the Command & Conquer series.

People's Republic of China

In the Generals series, China is seen as aiding her United States allies in combating the [...] organization in the game known as the Global Liberation Army or GLA. The Chineese Campaign allows the player to command the Chineese Military in places such as Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

THe Chineese utilize heavy military might and the strategy of most players playing as the Chineese are to use China's heavy machinery such as "overlord tanks" to destroy the enemy. Also, in both games, China possess a arsenal of Tactical Nuclear Missiles which the player is allowed to utilize on several occasion to bring down heavy fire power onto the battlefield.

Global Liberation Army

The Global Liberation Army (often abbreviated in the game to GLA) is a fictional [...] organization in which the player can either control in the GLA Campaign, or fight in the USA and China Campaigns. The player's missions in the GLA are usually to secure funding, sabotage buildings, or to simply capture enemy technology

The GLA utilizes sneaky, underhanded tactics such as booby traps, and concealed soldiers. GLA forces are cheaper to build in the game allowing more to be built in comparison to their USA of CHINA counterparts. The GLA also is able to use poision warfare with materals such as anthrax.
