Colorado's Elusive Ingredient

Colorado's Elusive Ingredient is the currently ACTIVE Denver, Colorado shadow cast of the 1975 cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which performs weekly. Colorado’s Elusive Ingredient was founded in April 2000 in Denver, Colorado.

History

The Beginning

Denver is one of only a small handful of cities in which The Rocky Horror Picture Show has never stopped playing since the film's debut in 1975. Older locals still speak with hushed tones and wistful, guilty glances of the debauchery at the old Ogden Theater in the 1970's and 1980's. Rocky became a local institution at the Esquire on 6th Avenue through the 1990's.

Started April 15th, 2000 by the remaining members of Denver's former shadow cast known as Denver's Dynamic Tension, Colorado's Elusive Ingredient (CEI) performed for little over a year at the Esquire. They then went onto the Buckingham Theater in Aurora, Colorado. CEI had a brief but memorable run at the Buckingham Theater, and moved on to the Tiffany Plaza in Denver, Colorado, where it remained for about one year. The Tiffany Plaza theater remains CEI's most successful run to date, regularly drawing in attendance between 80 and 110 regulars and virgins (a person's first time attending a live shadow casted performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show).

The Tivoli Starz Film Center

After CEI parted ways with the Tiffany Plaza, they found a home with the Tivoli Starz Film Center, located on the Auraria Campus of the Metropolitan State College of Denver. While smaller in size, the Tivoli allowed CEI to perform on a weekly basis with success, going so far as completely selling out all available seating on several occasions. Due to differences in opinions of appropriate content of the show between CEI and the owners of the Tivoli Starz Film Center, The Denver Film Society, CEI regrettably parted ways with the Tivoli and searched for a new home.

The Oriental Theater

The Oriental Theater in Denver, Colorado offered CEI a home after multiple special performances there during CEI's tenure with The Tivoli. Being a concert venue, The Oriental Theater provided CEI with more than adequate space to perform every week. Unfortunately, dwindling attendance and theater renovations caused the Oriental Theater to temporarily close its doors, leaving CEI homeless once again.

The Crossroads Theater, Part 1

After CEI left the Oriental Theater, they experienced a stint of homelessness, which resulted in a drop from the public eye and lowered attendance. A home was finally secured at The Crossroads Theater in Downtown Denver. However, time spent without a regular performance caused a noticeable drop in weekly attendance. After several weeks of performances, CEI was starting to build a buzz for the show again. Unfortunately, due to zoning restrictions imposed by the City of Denver, The Crossroads Theater was temporarily shut down and CEI had to once again find a new home.

The Crossroads Theater, Part 2

After nearly a year of homelessness, performing occasionally with members of the University of Northern Colorado's drama department, CEI was able to secure a home with the newly re-located Crossroads Theater, in Downtown Denver. Running from April 23rd, 2007 to July 7th, 2007 This recently renovated theater provided a comfortable home for CEI for 4 short months. Circumstances outside of CEI's and the management of Crossroads Theater's hands caused CEI to become homeless once again.

Red and Jerry's

Starting November 2nd, 2007 and running to December 14th, 2007 CEI found a comfortable home at Red and Jerry's in Sheridan, Colorado. Due to un-disclosed issues, CEI has temporarily found themselves homeless once again. Negotiations are currently underway to secure a new facility to resume weekly performances.
