Coffee in a Capsule: Learn More about Caffeine Pills and How to Use Them to Your Advantage

Caffeine is usually described as a mood booster drug. It appears in various amounts in several food sources including coffee, energy bars, chocolates, candies, cookies, teas and soft drinks. Caffeine is also widely available in a form of a pill as both over-the-counter and prescription drugs, all depending on the potency of such pill.

Caffeine pills are used to help people with hypersomnia. Since the caffeine increases awareness and keeps the central nervous system alert, the condition of hypersomnia is greatly relieved.

Hunger pangs are also suppressed by these pills. And since caffeine increases your metabolic rate on itself, it doubles its weight lose potency to greater heights.

In the New York Times’ article, It’s Time to Make a Coffee, published back in 2009, athletes also use caffeine pills to improve their performance. Caffeine increases overall stamina so that athletes can push themselves more during their trainings and work-outs. However, caution should be put in mind since caffeine can cover the need for rest. It can also cause dehydration due to excessive urinating because caffeine is diuretic.

Analgesics, at least some of it, contain caffeine as it helps reduce fever, headaches, migraine, muscle discomfort, menstruation difficulties, sinusitis and even arthritis.

The most important effect of caffeine is the sense of well-being. It increases focus and concentration. It does increase heart rate and blood pressure in exchange for everything positive it provides.

Pregnant women should lay off caffeine because according to a report from the American Pregnancy Association back in 2008, caffeine increases the chance of miscarriage. The increase in chance is only evident to women who consume more than 200 mg of caffeine each day. There is also a conflicting report that suggests that women who drank 250 to 350 mg a day has lower risk of miscarriage. Whatever the truth is, pregnant women should just avoid consuming caffeinated products because of its various side-effects even if it does not contribute to miscarriage.

As always, no consumable is a substitute to sleep. This is a common misconception among the masses that wrongfully use caffeine in order not to sleep. Sleeping is not optional, it’s mandatory. It is also advisable not to use caffeine pills in stressful environment or situations. It is better to take a nap and then proceed on studying than to stay awake all night. Caffeine only magnifies the stress, not suppress it.

It’s not just the physiological aspect of the body that caffeine is affecting. It also improves on the cerebral part. Short term memory may be increased as the central nervous system simulation is not just limited to hormonal boosts. Consuming 100 mg of caffeine increased activity in the frontal lobe.

Caffeine is also addictive and it’s rather risky to keep on consuming this chemical in order to function. The body may develop resistance and it may need higher doses of caffeine in order to have the same effect from earlier lesser quantity.
