CODIRECT

CODIRECT, the Controlled Delivery and Release Center, is an Institute Excellence Centre, a part of Sweden’s new innovation strategy of creating strong R&D environments. The Centre is hosted by YKI, the Institute for Surface Chemistry. CODIRECT started 2006 and consists of a consortium of YKI, three departments at KTH and Stockholm University, and 10 companies, many of which are multinational.

The program is funded by the public funding agencies VINNOVA, the Knowledge Foundation and the Foundation for Strategic Research, and by industry, for creating “...leading international environments for research, development and innovation activity within areas of great importance to the future competitiveness...”

CODIRECT aims at developing technology platforms for delivering and releasing desired substances to the place and at the time of choice. The aims are to develop novel and inventive high performance vehicles for controlled delivery and release of active substances. Besides increasing the application efficiency and effectiveness of the active while minimizing unwanted side effects, these delivery vehicles can act to trigger changes in functionality where and when needed. In some cases these changes in functionality are aimed at altering the perception of a product, thereby enhancing visual, tactile, olfactory, or taste appeal.

Vision statement

CODIRECT is the leading innovator of novel controlled delivery technologies.

Mission statement

CODIRECT provides an interdisciplinary forum where industry, academia and institute join forces to tackle industrial problems. We develop technology platforms in the area of Controlled Delivery and Release.

Aims

The aims of CODIRECT are:

  • To create a center of excellence for the strategic area of controlled delivery and release, that is recognized for both scientific excellence and industrial importance.
  • To create a forum where industry and academia join the institute to tackle fundamental issues and specific industrial problems within the field.
  • To create new knowledge and competence that result in new and enhanced products and stimulate patent applications and publications.
  • To create an efficient organization for transfer of knowledge that fosters rapid exchange of ideas and results and encourages commercialization.
  • To attract external funding from e.g. EU and national sources to strengthen and broaden the scope of the center.
