Coco Cielo

Jorge Luis Revilla, known professionally as DJ Coco Cielo, (died September 28, 2008) was born in Lima, Peru. He was ACTIVE in the genres of electronica and New Wave Pop.

Perhaps the best way to describe Coco Cielo is though his own words-- “I was never born, in fact I’m still in the process and I’m tired of my past. I went through that already and it bores me.”

Career

In 1990, Coco Cielo and his life partner, Mario Telegram (known as Mario Heaven) left Germany to enter the music scene in Valencia. There they purchased their first instruments and within a year, they accomplished their goal. Their first disc was a record under the group name Sylvania, sponsored by Luis Calvo (Elephant). The Silvania’s electronic sound was inspired by artists such as Brian Eno, Cocteau Twins, and Zombies; creating a style in which the tune of the distorted electric guitar was essential. They published an EP called "Miel Nube Hiel" and the "En Cielo de Oceano" album with a very innovative sound for the time period. They soon moved to Madrid and were responsible for the artistic management Elephant's sub-record company that was dedicated to electro music. It was with this record company that Coco published his later albums and other records. Coco was responsible for the stage programming of the Benicassim Music Festival. In 1999, Coco Cielo and Mario formed a new group, Cielo, and the styles shifted to a more techno-pop genre. With this change, they decided to ended their contract with the Elefant records. Their new musical style gave rise to their new label, Click New Wave. Coco Cielo’s development as an artist continued to grow as he got an offer to play as a DJ in the Madrid club, Cool. Here he became one of the key figures of Madrid’s nightlife.

Death

Coco Cielo was murdered in his apartment next to Plaza de Santo Domingo on the morning of September 28, 2008. At around 4:00 am, Coco Cielo’s neighbor said that she heard loud noises and someone yelling. It was Mario, Coco’s roommate, who found the DJ’s body lying on the floor with what looked like numerous knife cuts and a strong hit on the back of the musician’s head.

Three men were detained and accused for Coco Cielo’s death. According to different investigations, Coco had met a person near Puerta Del Sol that morning, whom he invited home. Once there, the guest made a phone call to a friend with the intention of robbing him. Coco’s guest and the other men hit his head with a bottle and stabbed him several times before leaving for the bus station to flea to Barcelona.

The three men related to the [...] of Coco Cielo were of Romanian nationality. By October 14th 2008, two were arrested in Barcelona, and the third one in Madrid, where the crime happened.
