Coach Stone

Coach Stone (nee Ms. Wickavich) was a character On the Television sitcom, The Nanny. She was played by actress Rita Moreno.

Tyrannical teacher

Coach Stone (No first name was revealed) was a gym teacher and coach at the school that Maggie Sheffield attended. As her teaching style borderlined on bullying, it showed that she was none too popular. As it also turned out, she had taught Maggie's nanny, Fran Fine, when she was in high school.

At that time, she went by the name Ms. Wickavich, which Fran derisively referred to as Ms. Wicked Witch of the West. When she joined Maggie's school as a teacher, she was married to a person surnamed Stone, hence her last name. She was also notorious for her failure to pass anyone in her class; a record that she was proud of.

However, she allowed Maggie to take a make-up test which, after a rough start, she managed to complete and Coach Stone grudgingly allowed her to pass, but only because Fran saves Stone's life by performing the Heimlich maneuver on her after she swallows her whistle. After her episode, she was never seen or heard from again.

During the credits at the end of the episode, Fran and Coach Stone are looking through Fran's high school yearbook, and Stone notices Fran's boyfriend. She says, half-singing, "A boy like that would kill your brother/Forget that boy and find another/Stick to your own kind, stick to your own kind." This inside joke is a reference to Rita Moreno's role as Anita in the movie version of West Side Story, for which she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1961.
