Music's greatest secret...

History

Classified is a four-piece Galway-based original rock band that was formed from an advert placed in the classified section of a local newspaper by brothers Anthony and Stephen. The quartet, completed by bassist Jimi and drummer Joe, have already created quite a stir since taking their first serious steps into the music world in February, 2007.

Classified narrowly missed out on being dubbed, “the best unsigned act in UK and Ireland” with the opportunity to play their first ever gig at Glastonbury 2007. One of their songs was chosen before thousands of acts to participate in the final voting stages of the well-known talent competition “Unsigned Heroes” in April 2007. Though lacking the necessary fan base and votes to take them through, the band took great encouragement out of being selected ahead of thousands of more established acts.

Since May, Classified have been recording and working hard getting a live set laid down, but also trying to get their name out there. On the back of Unsigned Heroes and having impressed music industry professionals, Classified has networked constantly, both in Ireland and abroad. Having achieved limited airplay on local Irish radio, the band made an attempt to bring their music across the Atlantic to reach a broader audience. The band has been successful and their songs have been further vindicated. By October Classified had signed a one year contract with Californian Record Company “Jetspeed Records” for the use of Someone Like Me on a compilation album which has been released in the United States, something that will give the band major international radio play. Jetspeed Records is the fastest growing record label on the east coast of America and have affiliations with MTV, VH1, Rolling Stone Magazine and all the other big media players in the music world.

Back at home Classified played their first live performance at Róisín Dubh in Galway city on December 26th, in support of The Kanyu Tree. The band are hoping to continue their domino effect with Irish audiences. People are now be able to see for the first time, energetic live performances of songs such as “Someone Like Me” and “You're Not The Same”, which have turned the heads of music hierarchy around the world. Only time can tell whether this band who call themselves “music’s greatest secret” can live up to that title. What is undeniable, however, is that if Classified keep progressing with the same impetus they have demonstrated to date, they won’t remain a secret for long.
