Cinder Cone (band)

Cinder Cone is a minimalist rock band from Los Angeles consisting of drummer David Foley and guitar player/vocalist Anthony Fournier. The band played its first show in the Summer of 2004 in their home town. Their sound is characterised by driving yet complex drum patterns with guitar parts that fill out low-end and high-end tones. The band employs an occasional octave pedal, a 3/4 amplifier stack, and a heavy emphasis on single kick drum beats in quick succession to achieve a full sound. They happily note that they can fit themselves along with all their equipment into a Toyota Prius.

  • The band's debut, self-titled album was released in January of 2007 on New York based Harter Records. All of the songs were written in a few months and were recorded sporadically while Foley finished college. The band enlisted the help of a few friends to fulfill bass duties on the album, although they have never used a bass player live. Their sound has evolved so as to eliminate the need for a bass player.
  • Having played in northern and southern California, and playing regular shows in Los Angeles, the band is currently working on a follow up to their debut album, due for release in Winter 2007/2008. The next album will feature minimal overdubs, little or no bass, and a fuller drum sound which is truer to the band's live approach.
  • The band was named for an inactive volcano located not far from Mt. Whitney in California.
  • They are known for Providing complimentary earplugs to the audience at their shows due to the high volume of their music.
