Christopher J. Grubb

Christopher James Grubb (born October 12, 1966) is an interior designer and President of Beverly Hills California based Arch-Interiors Design Group Inc. and owner and lead designer for The C. G. Collection of products and furnishings for the home.

Early life and Education

From a very young age, Grubb would draw buildings, floor plans and cities, eventually fleshing out his models with legos and wood blocks.

Grubb received his degree in design through a cooperative program with The University of San Francisco and the Academy of Art College. Grubb also spent time at Universitá Cattolica in Milan, Italy, where he received a scholarship to study liberal arts and design. He has also lived in Japan for several months and was influenced by Asian design elements.

Career

In 1994 Grubb founded Arch-Interiors Design Group in Beverly Hills, California.

In early 2011, Grubb launched the C.G. Collection, a new line of bathroom vanities.

Grubb is a regular contributor to design related newspaper & magazine articles, as well as television reports & programs.

Design

Grubb views design as both an art and a science.

Grubb's approach focuses on creating multifunctional rooms and accessories, not allowing any space to go to waste. He gives importance to strong visual boundaries between functional spaces, and emphasizes hiding clutter, such as cables or computers by covering them in credenzas or cabinets.

Grubb considers low stools to be one of his signature design elements, and he has also on occasion used 3-D marble, mosaic and stone tiles as design elements.

Home Office

In 2005 Grubb designed the home office of film director Charles Matthau, son of the actor Walter Matthau.

Kitchens and Baths

In June 2011, Grubb spoke at the Dwell on Design conference at the Los Angeles Convention center on how to get the most out of one's kitchen. Grubb's recommendations for kitchen designs include a well defined cooking area, preferably elevated, that allows the cook to face guests while working. The fastest and most affordable kitchen upgrade, according to Grubb, is to get rid of all kitchen clutter and keep visible only decorative items such as spices, a fruit bowl, or a plant.

In 2011, Grubb launched the C.G. Collection, a new line of bathroom vanities designed for the affordable luxury market.

Interior Design

In 2005 Grubb designed the study in Esquire magazine's effort to transform an unfinished mansion in Los Angeles into "Man's Ultimate Oasis."

Hospitality Design

In 2007 Grubb designed the ORA Dentistry Spa, which has been described as the "luxury destination of the new must-have pampered treatment when visiting a dentist."

In 2010, Grubb designed the Recess nail salon using ecologically friendly techniques such as skylights, photocell lighting, FSC-certified wood and efficient air conditioning systems.

Personal life

Grubb currently resides in West Hollywood, California in a house he personally remodeled, as was featured on HGTV's "Small Space, Big Style" program. In his spare time he enjoys travelling the world and exploring new cultures, countrysides and architectures.
