Chitra Tripathi (journalist)
Chitra Tripathi is a well-known Indian news anchor currently working with Hindi news channel ABP Live as Vice President of News and Programming.
Personal life
Tripathi was born in a middle-class family in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
She had her education in Gorakhpur.
She had married another well known journalist Atul Agrawal in 2009, with whom she has one child. Their relation allegedly was not at all smooth and as early as in March 2016, Tripathi had registered an FIR in Sector 24 Police Station in Noida against her then husband Agrawal, for beating and domestic violence.
In July 2021, the couple underwent through another major controversy, later termed as OYO case.
On March 20, 2025, Triptahi publicly declared through her social media account that she and Atul had decided to part their ways. The separation had caused widespread reactions on social media.
Career
Tripathi began her career with Gorakhpur Doordarshan in 2005. She has worked with news channels Sahara India, India News, NewNews24, ETV Network, and Aaj Tak, before joining ABP News, where she is presently working. She had previously worked with ABP News from 2016, where she hosted shows including Kaun Banega Rashtrapati, 2019 Kaun Jeetega, Modi Ke 4 Saal.
Later she resigned from ABP and joined Aaj Tak as a deputy editor, where she covered the 2019 India-Pakistan border clash.
On Aaj Tak, she covered the talk show Dangal after the death of Rohit Sardana, replacing his former show Desh Tak with Shankhnaad.
Tripathi was awarded the Ramnath Goenka Award in 2015 for his Kashmir coverage.
She was awarded the Bihar Gaurav Asmita Award in 2025.
Gurgaon POCSO case
In 2013, 08 journalists, Ajit Anjum, Anchor Suhail, and reporter Sunil Dutt, who worked with News24 and editor-in-chief Deepak Chaurasia; Tripathi, then an anchor with another anchor Rashid Hashmi; Jodhpur reporter Lalit Singh Badgurjar; and producer Abhinav Raj, who worked for India News, were charged with preparation of forged video of a minor girl, who was victim of [...] assault, and her family by showing them in an indecent manner and telecasting it on news channels.
They have accordingly been charged under sections 120B, 469, 471 IPC, sections 67B and 67 IT Act and sections 23 of POCSO Act.
The matter is presently being heard before Special POCSO Court in Gurugram, Haryana, where Charges have been framed against the accused.
OYO case
In June 2021, Tripathi's ex-husband Atul Agrawal had made an allegation AbOUT being assaulted and looted at gun-point in Noida. Later the Noida police found the story to be completely framed and concocted. Instead, Agrawal had gone at his female friend's house and had allegedly concocted this story after Triptahi had summoned him immediately to house.
Though Agrawal immediately left the girlfriend's house, but Tripathi allegedly did not allow him to enter their house, which led Agrawal to spend his night in some OYO room. This had led to massive embarrassment to Agrawal, some of which had also to be shared by Tripathi. This incidence later came to acquire the name "OYO case".
