Chimney Safety Institute of America
The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) is a United States non-profit educational institute that educates American homeowners, home inspectors, chimney sweeps and related professionals AbOUT the prevention of chimney fires and carbon monoxide intrusion. The organization builds awareness of the need for annual chimney inspections and service by a qualified chimney professional.
History
CSIA was formed in 1983 and took control of what was then the certification program of the National Chimney Sweep Guild.
In 1992, [...] Van Dyke, America’s most recognizable chimney sweep, donated his voice talent to the Chimney Safety Institute of America helping CSIA produce a public service announcement distributed to 404 stations across the country in time for National Chimney Sweep Week.
In 2002, CSIA opened the CSIA Technology Center in Plainfield, Indiana an Indianapolis suburb in order to host hands-on training opportunities for chimney sweeps and related professionals.
CSIA today
The mission of the CSIA is the elimination of residential chimney fires, carbon monoxide intrusion and other chimney-related hazards that result in the loss of lives and property. Today there are over 1400 individuals nationwide holding the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep credential.
