Checkmyfile
Checkmyfile is a British financial technology company which provides credit reporting services for consumers.
It was the first online credit report service in the UK and provides the UK's only multi-agency credit report, allowing customers to see everything that is reported about them in one place and correct errors.
It is headquartered in Truro, Cornwall.
History
Checkmyfile was cofounded by Barry Stamp and Peter Kent in 2000. Kent had previously been involved with Egg Banking, an internet bank launched in 1998.
The company was launched to "help consumers understand their credit reference and score". By December 2005 it already had over a million customers, was receiving over 20,000 daily visits to its website (putting it in the top 1% of websites in the world for traffic at the time) and was expanding to the U.S. and Australia.
Checkmyfile launched a sister website, givemecredit.com, in 2002 to help consumers find a credit card which matched their credit score.
In 2017, Credit Reporting Agency (Checkmyfile's holding company) received funding from Santander, allowing its management team to buy out the founding shareholders to own the business outright, and assisting plans for UK and international expansion.
Products and services
Checkmyfile claims to offer "the most detailed, confidential credit report" available. It collates up to six years of history from the three main agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion).
Checkmyfile's services are available on a monthly subscription plan and include credit score monitoring, identity fraud risk checks, court record checks and debt advice.
Its credit report shows which credit agency gives customers the best score, and which banks use that agency to check credit ratings, increasing users' chances of successful credit or loan applications.
