Chatbot competition

There are a Small number of competitions for chatterbots, at least two of which are run each year.

The Loebner prize is the first formal instantiation of a Turing Test. It is sponsored, and sometimes run by, Hugh Loebner. Each year an annual prize of $2000 and a bronze medal is awarded to the most human computer, with $100,000 and a Gold Medal being awarded if the bot manages to totally convince the judges that it is human (using audio-visual input). It takes place in the real world (at varying venues), with the bots forbidden from accessing the web. It has been running since 1990.

The World Chatterbot Challenge is a new competition which is started in 2005. It is being run by Bob Norris.

Microsoft launched Robot Invaders competition in 2006.
