Charles Johnson (quarterback)
Charles Johnson is an American college athletics personality at the Boulder campus of the University of Colorado and is also remembered, during his student days, as the backup quarterback (behind Darian Hagan) in the 1989 and 1990 seasons of CU football.
Biography
He is particularly noted for a pivotal role in the infamous Fifth Down game at Missouri on October 6, 1990 when, during the last play of the game, he ran for the decisive touchdown on fifth down.
At the end of the 1990 season, Colorado played in the Orange Bowl game on January 1, 1991, defeating Notre Dame by a score of 10â9, which propelled Colorado to a controversial share of the mythical national championship of Division I-A college football for 1990. Johnson was named MVP of the 1991 Orange Bowl.
Sixteen years later, after a career in Denver radio and television as well as co-founding a corporate Internet data center, Johnson was appointed in February 2007 as the Assistant Athletic Director at the Boulder campus. He also acts as color commentator on radio broadcasts of University of Colorado men's basketball games.
