Centro de Biotecnologia dos Açores (CBA)
The Biotechnology Centre of the Azores (CBA) was established in December 2003 and is recognized by the Foundation for Science and Technology. It was founded by a group of professors from the Department Of Agricultural Sciences, University of the Azores (UAC), with the overall aim of developing research in the area of Agricultural Biotechnology.
The CBA is an integrated in the UAç, for which it depends for financial management and administration of their projects. The multiple projects are funded by the European Union Foundation for Science and Technology and by various institutions of the Regional Government of the Azores.
Currently, the main lines of investigation of the CBA are Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Biotechnology, Food and Environmental Biotechnology, which is carried out by a young multidisciplinary team. Their meritorious work has been published in journals of international standing and, on several occasions, acknowledged with scientific awards. This center also has partnerships with several universities in Portugal, Europe and the United States, which is a prerequisite for exchange of experience in research and the expansion of scientific knowledge.
