Cecilia Abadie

Cecilia Abadie is a software developer focusing on wearable technology. She briefly became the focus of media attention in late-2013 and early-2014 after she became the first known Google Glass user to receive a traffic citation for using the device while driving.

Early life

Abadie was born in Argentina but grew up in Uruguay. She received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Career

Abadie was a founder of 33Labs, where she also worked as a developer and Chief Technology Officer. While at 33Labs, she became a “Google Glass Explorer” and was among the device's first 200 users.

Abadie is manager of Meta Co.'s Developer Success Program.

Google Glass incident

In October 2013, a California Highway Patrol officer pulled Abadie over for speeding on San Diego's Interstate 15 freeway, estimating that her Toyota Prius was traveling at around . The officer issued citations for both speeding and violation of California Vehicle Code Section 27602, a state law which forbids viewing television or other video while driving. In San Diego traffic court in December 2013, she pled not guilty to the charges, and both were dismissed in January 2014.
