Universidad Nacional de Piura is a Peruvian football club, playing in the city of Piura, Peru.

History

In 1961 was founded the Universidad Técnica de Piura. With the intention of promoting the sport in 1967 they inscribed with this name a soccer team in third division having as central idea take it to the first division little by little.

In 1970 the club would disappear, because in 1971 the merger with the Club Cruz de Chalpón, this time to itself with the first university, which in this then already was showing the National's title granted during the government of Juan Velasco Alvarado, in 1969.

Jorge Marky Nizama, worker of the UNP, influenced very much the merger since it could interest the Rector of the University to achieve the merger, which crystallized on January 20, 1971.

In 1971, they ended in the ninth place. In 1972 also the club ended in the group of the boys, but the enthusiasm did not decline. In 1973 and 1974 the team stayed in seventh place.

In 1979 The League of Football had programmed it for his championship of this year and since it did not play simply they decreed that it had to play in the second division. Happily the FPF decreed that it was continuing in first.

With more than three decades of existence Deportivo UNP it has conquered seven titles and eight subchampionships of the district. In the year 1986 and 1987 the club intervened in the Campeonato Intermedia competing with the best teams of the Peruvian north without achieving the title of any for what did not come to the Decentralized.

Nowadays it looks for his revenue to the maximum Division taking part in the Copa Peru.
