Catalina (band)

Catalina is a Canadian country music duo formed in November 2010, in Brockville, Ontario. The group is composed of siblings Rebekka Paige (lead vocals, guitar, piano) and Colby Latocha (vocals, lead guitar, banjo). Shortly after forming, the group signed to Crystal Shawanda's independent label New Sun Records and released one single titled "Here We Go Again" to Canadian Country radio. As of May 2012, the group has left the label and are preparing to release their sophomore EP, This is Our Night.

History

Early years and formation (2005-2010)

Prior to the formation of Catalina, Rebekka had performed as a solo artist. Her first performance was at her school's talent show where she received a standing ovation, despite experiencing technical difficulty. This performance inspired her to pursue a career as a musician. Shortly after this performance she formed a band using local musicians, (including her brother Colby on lead guitar) called The Rebekka Paige Band.

In May 2008 Rebekka released her debut album. The album was produced by Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame award Recipient and lead guitarist of Prairie Oyster, Keith Glass. The album spawned three singles, "Good Riddance", "Girls Like Fast Cars Too" and "Watch Your Back". The latter was co-written by Rebekka and Keith Glass. The album and singles achieved moderate success. Despite being young and relatively unskilled musicians at the time of the albums release, the group played extensively throughout Ontario promoting themselves and the album. They opened for acts such as Emerson Drive, Terri Clark, Johnny Reid, Prairie Oyster, Jaydee Bixby, Crystal Shawanda, Deric Ruttan and Ambush.

As fall 2010 approached Rebekka found herself without a band. Other band members had decided to pursue other interests, leaving her and her brother Colby as the only remaining members of The Rebekka Paige Band. Having put so much effort into the makings of a music career, Rebekka enlisted help from Colby and they decided to reform using the name Catalina. The band states their name is a reference to the quote "It's the f***ing Catalina Wine Mixer" derived from the movie Step Brothers. Shortly thereafter, they were signed to Crystal Shawanda's independent record label, New Sun Records.

The group recorded a debut EP at Quad Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. It never saw an official release, and only 150 copies were made.

On October 17, 2011 the band made two tracks available for free download via their Facebook page.

This is Our Night (2011-present)

On November 2, 2011 the band announced they had left New Sun Records, stating "We feel the direction we would like to take this MusicAL project will only be compromised if we stay with New Sun Records from a professional and creative perspective." via their Facebook page. The band also stated they had begun writing for their debut album.

The band entered Quad Studios in Nashville, Tennessee on April 30, 2012 to begin recording their second EP. They announced the originally slated album would instead be released as a second extended play, via Twitter. On May, 19, 2012 they announced that the EP would be titled This is Our Night and would be released July 19, 2012 exclusively on iTunes.

On June 29, 2012 the band debuted the first single off their sophomore EP titled "Just So Long (As You'll Stay)" on PureVolume. The song debuted at No. 1 the following week after receiving more than 5000 plays. On July 3, 2012 the band released the single on iTunes.
