Casey Comets

Casey Comets are an Australian football (soccer) club based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, currently playing in the Victorian State League Division 2.

History

The Cranbourne Soccer club was started in May 1975 by Peter Giles with the help of Steve Combar and Tony Spink. Eleven boys attended the first training session held at the Cranbourne State School.

The Club was officially inaugurated at a public meeting chaired by Councilor Campbell on the 2nd of June 91975.

The Founding committee was : G.Whitmore(chairman), A.Edmonds(treasurer), P.Giles( secretary). T.Spink,S.Goldie,J.Comber,S.Comber,B.Eaton and P.Gibbon. T.Mort and J.Hosey were later added to the committee.

Home games were played at the Cranbourne State School whilst training was held at the Cranbourne North State School. J.Comber was elected Social club secretary and J.West,R.Riddle & S.Ward were co-opted on to serve on that social committee.

At the end of that year a new ground was allocated to the club in Grant Street.

S.Goldie & B.Eaton did not apply for re-election at the end of the year

In 1975 69 boys had been registered and the club fielded 4 junior teams and one famous team of fathers and coaches.

U/10’s coachedby T.Spink & P.Giles Captain Simon Ward Played 12 friendlies Won 4 Drew 1 Lost 7 Goals scored 16 Goals Against 22 Best Player Award Andrew Hurst,Encouragement Award Tony Sadler

U/9’s coached by T.Mort Captain J.Giles Played 12 friendlies Won 3 Drew 2 Lost 7 goals scored 11 Goals against 24 Best Player Award Jeff Giles, Encouragement Award Paul Angus.

U/8’s coached by G.Mclaughlin & S.Goldie. Captain Bruce Giles Played 9 friendlies Won 1 Drew 2 Lost 6 Goals scored 6 Goals Against 21 Best Player Award Daniel Murray Encouragement Award Michael Pattison
