Canadian Group of Art Medalists
The Canadian Group of Art Medalists (CGAM), is a professional Canadian art group dedicated to the practice and appreciation of the fine art of medal making within Canada and abroad.
History
In 1998, Canadian artist and historian Christian Cardell Corbet visited the studios and corresponded with some of the leading sculptors of the time who created art medals. It was noted then that no official organization had ever been formed in Canada that dedicated itself to the rare art form of the art medal with a special emphasis on contemporary or avante garde medal creations and so the Canadian Group of Art Medalists was founded in The Spring of 2000. CGAM founding members included: Christian Cardell Corbet, Elizabeth Bradford Holbrook, Shawn Siegrist among others.
The CGAM First Annual Exhibition was held in London, Ontario in 2000 at the former London Regional Public Library. Since its inception the CGAM stands as the first professional group dedicated to the fine art of medal making in Canada.
